1 Swan Housing Association Job Description Job Title: Section: Reports to: Database Administrator Business Intelligence Unit IS Strategy Manager Location: Based at Zurich House but may be required to travel to other offices Main Purpose of Job To be the primary authority and resource for database technologies (primarily SQL Server based) and their application throughout the Swan Group. To be responsible for ensuring that production databases used throughout the Swan Housing Group are reliable, stable and performing at the required standard for endusers of the databases/associated systems. To design deploy new databases (including sizing, testing and database/server capacity planning elements). To determine suitable database backup and restore strategies that ensure databases are correctly archived according to Swan s needs (in particular regulatory requirements) without adversely impacting live usage. To assist with the development, testing and implementation of Disaster Recovery for all relevant Swan systems that include a database component. To troubleshoot and resolve database issues including integrity, performance, blocking, deadlocking connectivity, security issues. Provide operational support to other members of the BIU and IS teams with regards to database related elements of their roles, e.g. database querying, scripting, software integration. To assist with the delivery of database related elements of business projects. To manage test and development versions of databases used throughout the group including managing user access, swiftly deploying new versions, managing versions. Provide recommendations and implement improvements in database administration and systems based on industry best practices as well as own expertise and research. Provide assistance and training on database management, usage and reporting techniques and tools to other members of the BIU and IS teams. Assess new DBMS related tools, add-ins etc. for suitability in general and/or to resolve specific database related issues/provide additional functionality.

2 To be responsible for database tuning including performance tuning and query optimization using appropriate tools. Provide and apply expertise in the use of general SQL Server related database tools, such as Profiler, SSMS, DTA, SSCM and PerfMon. Detect, troubleshoot and resolve SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention issues. Assist with the development of database related automated sensors capable of predicting future (and identifying) current database related issues. Design, write and troubleshoot SQL Server code (e.g. stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, indexes, constraints). Keep up-to-date on latest developments in the database and housing sectors to ensure that technical knowledge remains current. To maintain a high level of professionalism particularly in relation to personal presentation, punctuality, reliability and diligence. Use personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in delivery of database related services throughout the organization. Contribute to the knowledge transfer library. Actively and pro-actively participate in database related product research and evaluation. Assist with User Acceptance Testing for new & updated systems, fixes & enhancements.

Person Specification Job Title: Department: Database Administrator Business Intelligence Unit QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ESSENTIAL Degree in related discipline or 5 years experience in a similar role Excellent understanding of relational databases, in particular with regard to MS SQL Server Experience of working in a production Microsoft Windows Server environment. Carrying out database management/software research and evaluation Creating reports, using SQL Server and related tools including SSRS Successfully managing conflicting priorities Excellent SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 skills including SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, SSMS, T- SQL, stored procedures, indexing, designing tables and views, backup/restore and defragmentation Thorough understanding of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems including Server 2008, in particular including TCP/IP networking, DNS and Active Directory DESIRABLE Knowledge of Civica s Universal Housing and Contact Manager systems Knowledge of 3rd party DBA tools and applications (e.g. Red Gate, Idera, ERwin ) Certification in MTA, MCSA or MCSE Experience of other database systems such as Oracle, MySQL, MS Access, FoxPro Proficiency in using Universal Housing and Contact Manager. Knowledge and exposure to MS SQL Server 2014
