2 WHAT IS SEO? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and refers to the techniques and strategies used to increase website traffic in organic searches. By organic searches we mean natural or non-paid searches, as opposed to pay-per-click (PPC) such as Google s Adwords. So in summary, SEO is about getting free and long-term online exposure for your business. SEO EXPLAINED FOR BUSINESS OWNERS It is now obvious that SEO is no longer something businesses can ignore, especially small businesses, new businesses or businesses entering new markets. Over the last 12 months Search Tempo has tracked a 180% increase in monthly enquiries about SEO. At first these enquiries came from very competitive online markets like travel, hotels, mortgage brokers and car rental companies. More recently we have noticed a widening of the sorts of businesses wanting SEO. Businesses like hairdressers, mining consultants, sales trainers, awning manufacturers, online retailers and educational institutions are now getting more ongoing business from the internet by investing in SEO. WHY YOU SHOULD CARE ABOUT SEO? With people spending more and more time online, the internet is the main avenue by which to advertise your business. In fact, the rise of internet usage by consumers has led to the decline in paper-based directories like Yellow Pages. In a recent survey conducted by the Commonwealth Bank, in 2008 less than 20% of Australians used Yellow Pages to find suppliers of goods and services. At the very centre of this trend are search engines like Google they are the primary way of finding or being found on the internet. SEO is about getting you ranked well and helping you profit from these search engines.
3 SEO brings ongoing traffic from qualified prospects looking for businesses like yours. SEO increases visibility, so your business can be found online. If you set yourself up correctly you can benefit for years. Unlike pay-per-click, organic SEO lasts for years. SEO helps manage your business reputation online. SEO is a necessary step to marketing your business online. SEO turns a website that costs you time and money into a business asset that generates ongoing revenue. As your search engine rankings rise, so does the value of your website. Not having good SEO rankings is like having a brochure that is left in the cupboard, or a direct mail letter that is never posted, or a radio commercial that is never aired. If you are not on the first page of Google, you are nowhere. 6 PROJECT APPROACH SEO is about optimising web pages not websites. The primary goal is to get top 10 listings in Google for target keyword phrases. Search Tempo uses a methodical, proven and ethical methodology to improve search engine rankings for target pages and target keyword phrases. Each page and keyword combination represents an SEO project. A web page can have up to three keyword phrases allocated to it. PROJECT DURATION Most projects take about 2 3 weeks to complete from the finalisation of the target keyword phrases. Progress in the search engine rankings should start to become evident in 6 8 weeks depending on search engine update cycles. Position in Yahoo and Live.com is a good indication of likely future rankings in Google, as Yahoo and Live.com tends to update its rankings more frequently. Don t be surprised initially if your rankings fluctuate from day to day or even hour to hour. Google often tests new ranking algorithms and these new algorithms will affect your search engine results. Over time your search engine result positions will tend to stabilise. 8 The cost for very competitive keyword phrases for a global market can only be accurately quoted after a thorough assessment and competitor analysis. In some cases we may recommend a pay-per- click campaign rather than organic SEO, or a combination of both. When you consider the cost of website development and other marketing mediums, search engine optimisation is great value. A newspaper ad, radio ad, television ad or other mass advertising medium usually only gives you one shot. A website optimised well is an investment that keeps on producing results for years. We have had clients who have optimised their website and recouped the cost in less than 4 weeks. What is the lifetime value of your typical client? How many new clients would it take to pay back an investment in SEO? TERMS For SEO, 50% deposit paid on commencement, balance within 14 days of final invoice. For Pay-per-click, 50% paid on commencement with balance within 14 days of completion. Final invoice will be sent on completion of link building campaign. Payment of the deposit means that the client agrees to attached terms and conditions as detailed in the attached SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION (SEO) SERVICES AGREEMENT.
