Read on to find out why you should join our I-Grad programme I-Grad is an eighteen-month management trainee programme where you ll learn the ins and outs of running a great hotel while developing your capabilities as a future leader. As an I-Grad you ll: Learn the fundamentals of how the hotel industry works Develop skills and experience in the function of your choice Manage an innovative project from start to finish Receive one-on-one monthly coaching from the hotel s General Manager Gain leadership experience with an internationally recognised hotel brand Be a part of the world s fastest growing international hotel group This programme has truly opened many doors for me. I was given the opportunities and the support that I needed to put me on the fast-track to becoming a leader. The programme is defined by three phases: Phase 1: Learning The Ropes Phase 2: Choosing Your Own Path Phase 3: Preparing For Your Future

4 Phase 1 Learning The Ropes In the first six months you ll learn how each of the functions within the hotel contributes to the overall success of the business. By rotating through five different areas, you ll get to see the big picture. Rooms Division Call Centre Reception 1 Housekeeping Concierge Guest Relations Administration Human Resources Engineering Finance IT 4 Security Quality 2 Food & Beverage Banquet Sales Banquet Operations F & B Outlets Room Service Stewarding Kitchen Main kitchen Pastry kitchen Banquet kitchen Sales & Marketing Business Development Reservations Marketing 3 Communications Revenue Management 5 Phase one was fascinating. I got to see the details of the entire hotel. It s like a jigsaw puzzle. You get to see what each individual piece looks like, and then you see how it all fits together.

5 Phase 2 Choosing Your Own Path Once you ve had a taste of everything, it s time to choose an area you d like to specialise in. We ll put together a 26-week supervisory level programme for you where you ll get to dive deeper into the functional area of your choice. Gain real world experience in your chosen field Become an effective team leader through IHG s leadership development programmes Phase two was motivating. I began to build relationships with my new team, hone my skills in my area of interest, and take on regular responsibilities. Be responsible for managing a team Set business goals that contribute directly to the hotel

6 Phase 3 Preparing For Your Future Now it s time to get serious! Everything you ve done in the programme to this point is about setting you up for success. In this phase, you ll get a chance to work as a leader and experience what your life beyond I-Grad will be like. You ll also commit to a project which you ll own and drive during your six months with the department. What type of project? Absolutely anything that adds business value! We welcome your fresh perspectives and ideas Phase three was empowering. It not only gave me responsibilities, but it also created opportunities for me to work on a project that was linked to the business success. This made me feel important, like I was truly a contributing member of the team. I transformed the look-and-feel of the hotel s back-of-house space with murals and digital displays. It is now a much more cheerful place to work. I was assigned to an F&B outlet which was losing money. I was given the challenge to bring in more business. I designed festive events and promotions which have since turned the outlet around. I rolled out a new manpower management system for the hotel.
