3 1. About Us Win Stone School of Culinary Art (Pvt.) Ltd commenced its training activities in May 2004 to produce competent culinary practitioners to meet the demands of the hospitality trade. We are well equipped with our teaching faculty comprising experienced chefs, hotel school lecturers, Management trainers and University academics with specialized knowledge on the Hospitality Industry. The company extended its operations with the establishment of Win-Stone Recruitment (Pvt.) limited to recruitment of skilled persons for positions locally as well as abroad. The School has completed courses for five batches of students numbering 291, of which over 80% has been successfully placed in employment. Our training lasting for a period of four months and six months on the job training completes a true transformation from basic school leaver to an accomplished practitioner in the hospitality Trade. Win Stone Hotel School is a registered training institution of the Vocational Training Authority of the Ministry Of Tertiary Education Of Sri Lanka. Ministry of Education has officially appointed our organization to train 200 unemployed youth who have completed their secondary Education under the Distance Education Modernization Project. We have been actively engaged in Food promotions, work shops and food festivals in collaboration with some of the leading institutions in the country such as National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), Hayleys Limited and two leading multinational food companies Unilever and Nestle. We have taken the national responsibility of organizing awareness programmes for housewives with the assistance of SWARNAVAHINI- a leading private sector TV station in Sri Lanka. Under this project we have trained over 1000 housewives within two years as a social responsibility. We are now fully geared to support the hospitality Industry by providing services in recruitment, training and development in keeping with the growing demands of the Industry. We posses the skills, confidence and competency at the highest levels to satisfy the product quality and standards demanded internationally. 3

Our Mission To promote the best professional competencies and management excellence of our students, enhancing the qualitative aspects of the fast growing and competitive hospitality industry 2. Programme Description: We all interact with the food and beverage industry, whether it is as staff or as a customer. This programme has been designed to give an insight into the industry and the skills required for obtaining employment in Cafes, Hotels, Bars or Restaurants and even restaurant & catering entrepreneurs. This programme will provide the student with the knowledge for effective management of food service operations, while presenting the basic service principles and highlighting the importance of meeting and exceeding the needs of the guest. No matter where your academic abilities take you, the skills from this course will always be there and help you stay employable worldwide! 7 3.1 General Registration Information All students should be registered with The Win-Stone School of culinary art by paying the relevant coaching fees for all stages of the certificate & diploma in Food & beverage. All registered students will be issued a Registration Number. This number will have to be quoted in all assignments, examination scripts and for any other correspondence with the Education Division. Registration fees cannot be transferred. A registration is valid only for 6 calendar months. All categories of students are expected to re-register by filling an application form at the end of each 6 months. Registration forms can be found at the institute or on-line. For the registration application should be submitted at least 3 weeks before the commencement date. Students have to get register at the Win-Stone school of culinary art, Nugegoda You will be contacted by phone if there is a problem processing your registration form, so please be sure to provide your daytime telephone number when you register. 3.2 Documents Required for Registrations 2 Passport Size Photographs (Coloured) Photocopy/Original of National ID/Passport Photocopy/Original of the O/L certificate Letter/s of work experience (if applicable) 3.3 Methods of Payments Fees are in Sri Lankan Rupees. The program fees are including vat and government taxes Registration fees are non-refundable. Fees MUST be submitted with the registration form. You may pay by Master Card, Visa, American Express, Cheque, Money Order, Dedit card, Bank Draft or International Money Order. Do not send Cash in the Mail. 7

8 3.4 Registering in Person Complete all the information on the registration form, printing clearly. If you are paying by cheque or money order (made payable to Wn-Stone School of Culinary Art), write your name, daytime phone number and Student ID number (if you have one) on the front of the cheque/money order. Visit a Student Service Centre during their hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Note: The Student Service Centres are normally closed on Saturdays, Poya days, Public & Mercantile holidays. 3.5 Payment Option Certificate Level Fees can be paid in two installments Diploma Level Fees can be paid in two installments Students are expected to make 50% of the relevant coaching fee as the first installment Full payment should be settled within two months by making the balance payment If the student was failed to settle the due payment on time he / she will be subjected to a penalty charge of 10% of the due amount. Students who do not settle the coaching fees within the given time period will not be allowed to continue the programme. 8

9 3.6 Refund Policy Refunds before the program of study starts: (a) If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution Ten (10)working days prior to the starting of the programme of study, the institution may retain the 10% of the total fees due under the contract. Refunds after the program of study starts: (a) If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution, or a student is dismissed, within 2 months of the program of study s duration, the institution may retain 20% of the total fees due under the contract. (b) If a student withdraws or is dismissed after 2 months of the program of study s duration, no refund is given. 4. Examination 4.1 Assignments Structure Certificate Programme On the completion on 3 rd course students will be tested on theoretical knowledge at Win-Stone school of culinary art. On the completion on 7 th course students will be tested on both theoretical and practical knowledge at Win-Stone school of culinary art. Diploma Programme On the completion on 4 th course students will be tested on theoretical knowledge at Win-Stone school of culinary art. On the completion on 8 th course students will be tested on both theoretical and practical knowledge at Win-Stone school of culinary art. 9

10 4.2 Breach of Examination Rules Any breach of the Examination Rules will lead to the candidate being penalised. In all cases of cheating the penalty will be expulsion from the Registration and debarment from applying for all examinations conducted by Win-Stone school of culinary art. Cheating a) Being in possession of any book, notes or other papers at any time during the examination session or in circumstances that indicate they may have been used in the examination b) Contacting, talking to, copying from any other candidate, or allowing work to be copied c) Leaving the examination room without the expressed permission of an invigilator and without an escort 4.3 Distribution of Marks Grading Grade schemes define how grades are organized within a course or for a particular grade item. A grade scheme includes a number of grade ranges (for example, the Gold grade range 75 marks & above). You can customize the number of ranges and the symbols used for each range (for example, Fail, Silver, Bronze and Gold). Gold 75 marks & above Silver 65 to 74 marks Bronze 50 to 64 marks Fail below 50 marks 4.4 Notification of Results Results of the examination will be notified by mail. If students require transcripts they must allow two working days advance notice to the Education Division to provide an updated results sheet. The decision of the examiners will be final. Answer scripts and assignments will not be available for the scrutiny of students and recorrections will not be permitted. 10
