4 PRESS RELEASE Noppen press release for the event ISTANBUL, TURKEY, 10 th 11 th April 2014 In the recent years, Turkey, Black Sea and Mediterranean area have been seeing solid trade trends, resulting in growing container throughput. Transhipment business for instance presents a huge growth potential for a country like Turkey. Overall it is obvious that the entire region is in specific need for adjusted rail and harbor networks, as well as optimized cargo handling facilities and logistic centres. At the 3 rd Annual Port and Rail Expansion Summit:, international and local experts from the industry gathered in Istanbul. Government officials, port & rail authorities, terminal operators, equipment & tech providers, EPC`s & construction firms, finance institutes and consultants covered various topics such as investment opportunities and future projects, operations efficiency, intermodal transportation, logistic efficiency and creation of transport corridors.

5 Chairman`s Event Remarks Mr. Roy van Eijsden Managing Director Dear participants and eminent speakers of the 3 rd Annual Port & Rail Expansion Summit Turkey, Black Sea and Mediterranean, It was an absolute pleasure to listen to your presentations, thoughts and ideas. I am grateful to our hosts, Noppen, for their organisation and for getting together such an interesting, international group of high level professionals. The summit has underlined a number of key issues and challenges that I consider to be of utmost importance for the future of port and rail performance in the region. I sensed unanimous recognition that the success of both is highly dependent on each other. Proper hinterland connections are becoming an ever more evident distinguishing factor for port operations, and the dependency on government and private initiatives in this area will only grow. I was very much encouraged by the participant s intimate understanding of the challenges that lay ahead of us and the general sense that we are at a historical turning point. The P3 initiative, further development of intermodal transport, increased importance of hinterland links and the social challenges in the region all come together in a highly energetic and maturing market. I was particularly happy to hear so many of you underscore the importance of a more centralized coordination of structural planning in order to also ensure future sustainable growth. Mr. İsmail Hakkı Tas from MIP introduced the term Mega in the discussion, which I found a very suitable description for the scalingup of the area of influence for the single projects. Off course each of the projects is influenced by the globalization of the market, but in the interest area of the summit we can also include regionalization as a significant influential factor. The cross country dependency within the Black sea area is evident, but with the increased infrastructural investment and local developments in the surrounding countries the balance may shift. Also in the Marmara and eastern Mediterranean regions there are interesting developments that we will monitor closely. With this said, a comment from Mr. Cavit Uğur comes to mind. He referred to Turkey as an open laboratory, where we can all observe the results of major infrastructural investment, both nationally and internationally. The page is too short to list all valuable contributions and interesting statements made by the participants. In general though, I can confidently say that we can look back at a very successful, fruitful, interesting and well organized event. Finally, allow me to express my gratitude again to Noppen for organizing this successful event and thank once again the participants, speakers and panel members for enriching the summit with their presence and views. I look forward to keeping in touch and meeting you soon on other occasion. Thank you Istanbul April 2014 Roy van Eijsden

6 PRESS RELEASE The 3 rd Annual Port & Rail Expansion Summit was opened by Mr. Roy van Eijsden, the Managing Director of Royal HaskoningDHV who was the chairman of the event.
