7 To enhance efficiency and productivity of NAPA activities. To foster a better inter-modal competitiveness and balanced modal distribution achievement. To provide an up-to-date and complete port operation application. To reduce administrative costs of document handling and communication. To reduce the time required by the cargo to cross a port node. To integrate in one network all ports enabling the entire NAPA to exchange information and documents. To provide a complete information interoperability in a region crossed by Corridors I and V. 7

8 The project consists in the following main activities: 1. analysis activity: a. state of the art of NAPA ports organization and processes, b. NAPA ports market study, c. assessment of the existing ICT systems at the NAPA ports, d. identification of the requirements of a common e-platform, e. definition of the standards to be used for data exchange and sharing; 2. development activity: a. improvement of the existing Port Community Systems at the NAPA ports (ICT interventions and harmonization of NAPA ports IT systems), b. setting up an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) application for integration and data sharing, c. implementation of a prototype consisting in a web portal of the NAPA ports, integrated with the enhanced NAPA ports PCS and the EDI application. 8

9 Organization and processes state of the art The first step of the project is an accurate analysis about the organization and the processes of NAPA ports, in order to obtain the basic data to define the requirements and standards to be used to improve the existing Port Community Systems and to create an e-platform based on an EDI application and a common web portal. 10 ICT systems analysis An important component of the project is the analysis of the state of the art of the ICT systems working at present at the NAPA ports and the identification of the reccomendations about possible updates and/or new developments, also based on an accurate cost-benefit analysis. The collected info will be the basis to improve the ICT systems of NAPA ports and to develop the EDI components. 11 Requirements identification Definition of users and system requirements for the improvements of the existing NAPA Ports Community Systems and for the IT integration among the NAPA ports. Improvements ICT System enhancement of information and data exchange (in order to allow the dialog between PCS and the IT systems of Port Community operators) enhancement of harmonization of port processes (in order to semplify the ports processes and to make easier the dialog among NAPA Ports) enhancement of harmonization of IT systems (in order to create the conditions for an efficient documents and data exchange based on common logics and standards) development of new PCS components (in order to improve the electronic generation of documents and, in general, the automation of port and logistics processes) Integration of the NAPA Port Community Systems and of the NAPA ports with the main logistics corridors 11
