Purpose of the role : A one year, fixed term, quality improvement and health informatics experience with the opportunity to apply specific graduate study principles in the practical work setting of a healthcare delivery system To develop skills and expertise in health informatics and the application of informatics for the improvement of health service delivery for improved patient outcomes and enhanced patient and whanau experience To promote and build capability and capacity in health informatics and in the research and evaluation of its development and impact To build personal and organisational leadership capability and capacity To support organizational initiatives in health informatics by bringing the perspective of your current and previous roles/units, past experience and qualifications, and enthusiasm for service improvement This role sits under Waitemata DHBs new Fellows Programme. Fellowships incorporate a 12-month project-based attachment in a specific area such as health informatics (up to 0.9FTE) and also include a structured leadership development programme (0.1FTE). There is also scope for the role to be adjusted to accommodate limited clinical duties, if preferred/appropriate (maximum 0.2FTE). The Fellows Programme seeks to embed quality improvement, innovation, translational research, education and leadership development in a new model for training health professionals. The programme is sponsored by the CEO and developed and led by the Senior Advisor in Health Leadership. KEY TASKS Extension of training and knowledge of health informatics, quality improvement, evaluation and healthcare systems EXPECTED OUTCOMES Work on health informatics related projects with specific deliverables that may form a whole project or a part of an existing project Complete special studies and project requests as directed by your manager Contribute to and/or lead the planning, coordination, organisation, and evaluation of Waitemata District Health Board -JOB DESCRIPTION - Page 3

KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES programme operations in an action-oriented environment Obtain an applied understanding of relevant organisation dynamics and business principles, and an understanding and appreciation of the array of staff, technical, and professional capabilities that must integrate successfully to provide health care in a complex system Develop an understanding of health IT governance structures Assist in identifying ways to improve operations through the application of health informatics, and support and advise on implementation or further development of new ideas, systems or technologies and improvements Analyse and develop reports and create actions to ensure compliance with regulations and organisation standards Where appropriate, complete a research or evaluation study of a healthcare related programme, and produce a peer reviewed publication, position paper or white paper Present at national and international conferences or workshops, and attend healthcare related events to stay current on emerging health care trends Project Management methodologies are applied Define and implement projects according to an agreed methodology, including for example, project plan, structure, reporting requirements, financial plans and budgets, participants, products, quality, risks, communications, controls and regular up-dating of the business plan. Successful implementation and operationalisation of the projects and deliverables to agreed standards of quality and with agreed timeframes and budgets. Assistance in the preparation of, and oversee implementation of project budgets, including financial management and negotiation of adequate resources for all projects.
