Care, counselling and education Would you like to work as a crèche worker, child or adult care worker, counsellor or teaching assistant? If you do, our high quality professional courses will help you achieve your ambitions. Work placement Applicants for childcare and teaching assistant courses at level 2 and 3 must be in a suitable work role or placement and we will need a letter from your school or setting to confirm this before you can enrol. You will also need a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. We can arrange this for you. A placement is not necessary on lower level courses but is extremely useful. Tutors pace learning effectively, developing excellent rapport with learners. Access to Higher Education The Access to Higher Education (Access to HE) Diploma is a full level 3 qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE course could be for you. Our Access to HE courses start in October, can be completed in one year and are available in the following subjects: business management early years health and related health professions. An Access to HE Diploma course involves completing a certain set of units of study relevant to the overall Diploma subject. The whole package of units is designed to equip students for university level study in that subject area. The detailed course content on individual courses depends on the subject of the Diploma, but all Access courses: require study of relevant academic subject(s) at university entry level give students the opportunity to learn how to approach study at university level and develop techniques to help them to be successful students. The Access to HE Diploma is assessed mainly by coursework completed by students throughout the course. A range of assessment methods are used, according to the subject, including essays, presentations, research projects and exams. Entry requirements You must be aged 19 or over and you will need GCSE A-C grades in English and maths or a nationally recognised equivalent such as Functional skills. If you do not meet the levels required we can refer you to our Skills for Life team who can advise you on courses to help you gain these qualifications. In exceptional circumstances you may be able to study a GCSE alongside your Access Diploma. The Access to HE Diploma is widely recognised by UK universities. We have partnerships with Birkbeck University and the University of East London (UEL) who both actively encourage applications from Access to HE students. UEL provide enrichment opportunities for our Access learners at their Stratford Campus including an induction programme and progression opportunities to help you gain a place at the university of your choice. You can apply to any university with your Access Diploma. To apply for a place on one of our Access to HE courses you will need to discuss the course and whether Access to HE is suitable for you with one of our Advisers. Please email bharat.dasoar@ redbridge-iae.ac.uk for an appointment. Financing your Access Diploma If you are 24 and over you may be eligible for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. If you successfully complete your Access Diploma and then go on to university and complete your undergraduate programme then your 24+ Advanced Learning Loan balance will be written off once you have completed your degree. There is no money to be paid in advance and the loan only becomes repayable once you are earning over 21,000 per year. Students under 24 on 1 September 2015 without a full level 3 qualification will not have to pay a fee if they are eligible for public funding. Detailed information on eligibility and financing an Access Diploma can be found in our Enrolment and fees booklet available on our website. 38

They are intended for people with no qualifications and are suitable for those interested in learning new skills or subjects. Learners can progress to Level 1 after completing their course. Level 1 Level 1 courses allow learners to gain skills that will help with getting a job or qualification and provide the foundation needed to learn at Level 2. These courses give a good introduction to a general area of work, and combine practical hands-on activities, project work and key skills. Level 2 These courses are intermediate level and are an ideal route into a career or opportunities to get qualifications in preparation for study at a higher level. Most employers use this level as their minimum entry requirement. Progression will be on to qualifications at level 3 or could lead to employment. Level 3 Level 3 courses are equivalent to A-levels. Learning at this level is challenging with courses offering solid preparations for a career or further and degree level study. Level 4/5 Levels 4 and 5 courses are the same as the early years at university and learners are expected to work on their own with very little guidance and solve complex problems and tasks. 40
