Accreditation bodies we work with The Stevenage Skills Centre The Stevenage Skills Centre offers high quality training in a modern environment. Our facilities consist of five purpose built units offering courses in welding, electrical, renewable, Green Deal, motor mechanics, engineering, plumbing, insulation, valeting, plastering and painting. Our courses are full and part-time, evening and weekend. We work with the main awarding bodies such as City and Guilds, ABBE, IMI and EAL to offer accredited qualifications. 01 02

Electrical Electrical Introduction Our electrical courses have been designed to meet the demands of those working in this growing sector. These courses can help you enhance your knowledge and understanding in an ever-changing working environment or provide you with the platform to enter this sector for the first-time. Whether you are looking for a qualification in 17th Edition Wiring Regulations or PAT testing, our portfolio of courses have been designed with the needs of the job market in mind. 07 C&G 2365 Electrical Installation Level 2 The City & Guilds 2365 at Level 2 is now the recognised route into the electrical installation industry (from 2012) and will cover underpinning knowledge necessary to work as an electrician. Who is this course for? This course is suited to those people looking to move into the electrical industry or people who require a recognised qualification. The course contains delivery around both the theoretical and practical aspects of the job role of an electrician, forming the underpinning skills and knowledge for access onto the level 3 programme. City and Guilds 2365 - Diploma in Electrical Installations Level 2 (Buildings and Structures) Tues and Thurs 6pm to 9pm 46 weeks Start date 23rd April 1350 Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT) This course has been designed to learn how to PAT test electrical equipment and certify it as being safe to use. We will take you through the practical and formalised recording processes. Who is this course for? PAT testing can be taught to a wide range of people including maintenance staff or landlords. Some basic electrical knowledge is useful but not essential. City and Guilds 2377-22 In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Day course - Wednesday and Thursday 9am to 5pm. There may be an additional day for those not working in the industry. Evening course - Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm for 5 weeks. Possibly additional week for those not from the industry. Start Date 17th April (day course) 7th May (evening course) 395 17th Edition Wiring Regulations This qualification ensures you are up to date with the latest industry regulation on wiring and the safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. It covers the 17th edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations, which came into force in June 2008. These regulations are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS7671). Electricians who install or maintain electrical systems, in either the industrial, commercial or domestic sectors. Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2008 (2382-12) Wednesday 6pm to 9pm - 10 weeks 13th March 395 We are also running this course as a combined suite (2382-12,2393,2392-10) starting on the 24th April. 08

Electrical Electrical Combined Electrical Course (City & Guilds 2382-12,2393,2392-10) 17th Edition Wiring Regulations plus Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification and Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification This course will enable those carrying out work in domestic installations to verify their own work as required by Part P of the Buildings Regulations. Candidates who have a basic knowledge and understanding of electrical science principles and experience of electrical installation, working either within the electrical contracting industry or similar trade. Level 2 Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification (City & Guilds 2392-10). Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings This qualification is designed to provide practising electricians, already operating in the domestic environment, an upgrade to their existing knowledge to incorporate an understanding of how electrical installations in dwellings must comply with all relevant Building Regulations. This course is for qualified and experienced electricians who want to upgrade their knowledge and qualifications to encompass the Part P building regulations and be able to register with a governing body and work as a domestic Part P installer. Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings (City & Guilds 2393) Wednesday and Thursday 6pm to 9pm 9 weeks plus exam Start Dates 24th April Combined Course 880 Combined Electrical Course (City & Guilds 2394,2395) 2394 Initial and Fundamental Inspection and Testing. plus 2395 Periodic Inspection and Testing Initial and Fundamental Inspection and Testing This qualification helps you to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to professionally design and install, or inspect and test electrical installations. Undertaking this course enables you to understand the principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations with regulations and requirements. This award is ideal for qualified electricians wishing to update their knowledge of electrical installation techniques. City & Guilds 2394 Level 3 Award in the Initial and Fundamental Inspection and Testing Periodic Inspection and Testing The 2395 covers practical inspection and testing work on a variety of assessment rigs. The course covers the knowledge required to succeed in the examinations and acquire the competence to undertake the periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations. This qualification has been developed for practising electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or who require some upskilling. City & Guilds 2395 Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Periodic Inspection and Testing Tuesday and Thursday 6pm to 9pm 8 weeks plus practical exam Start Date 23rd April Combined Course 750 09 09 10

Renewable Energy Renewable Energy Introduction Alongside our partners, Group Horizon, we are pleased to be able to offer a wide variety of courses covering subjects from Green Deal to Electric Vehicles, and Solar Photovoltaics (PV) to Energy Efficiency. Renewable energy is becoming an increasingly important element of the construction and engineering sectors. Our courses offer existing workers the chance to up-skill and take advantage of the opportunities in this emerging sector as well as providing new career paths. Our state-of-the-art equipment allows us to offer a hands-on experience to fully prepare you for working with these technologies. Our renewable energy courses are fully accredited and industry recognised programmes, meeting the needs of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and Green Deal PAS2030. Electric Vehicle Charging Point Installation This qualification aims to provide expert guidance to those wishing to gain knowledge and understanding of electric vehicle charging equipment installation. Who is this course for? Level 3 qualified electricians who are installing or going to install electric vehicle charging point equipment. City and Guilds 2919 Electric Vehicle Charging Points Installers. Examination is by on-line and practical exam. 2 days 9am to 5pm Pre-course preparation. 18th March, 22nd April, 30th May - 335 + VAT Understanding Sustainable Energy Efficiency This course covers a variety of subjects relevant to rolling out energy efficiency measures across the built environment of the UK. Those who work or want to work in the energy services sector, usually in a support services role such as installation, sales or customer advice. City and Guilds 6068 Understanding Sustainable Energy Efficiency. Assessment is a series of written test papers. Some pre-course study is issued. Background information on energy efficiency on web links to assist in preparation of the course. 3 days 9am to 5pm. Assessment is online via a multiple choice test. 29th April and 28th May - 375 + VAT 11 12

Renewable Energy Renewable Energy Green Deal Domestic Advice Domestic Energy Assessor Award in Environmental Technology (Renewable Energy Foundation Course) Award in Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems This course will enable you to give consumers advice on all aspects of the Green Deal including how to undertake energy inspections and provide information to customers on financing of the Green Deal. This qualification will enable you to demonstrate the requirements expected by the Department for Energy & Climate Change (DECC) and to apply for membership of a certification scheme. Those wishing to become Green Deal Advisors and are already qualified as Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs). Those without this initial requirement can also complete this additional qualification as part of a longer learning programme. ABBE Level 3 Diploma Green Deal Domestic Advice This qualification will enable you to conduct and undertake energy assessments and inspections. Additionally, you will be able to explain Energy Performance Certificates relating to domestic property. This qualification is for those who wanting a career as a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) and become registered on an accredited scheme. In addition, it allows progression to the ABBE Level 3 Diploma Green Deal Domestic Advice course for those who wanting to become Green Deal Domestic Advisors. ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment Pre-course preparation This course will give you the foundation knowledge from which you can base your renewable energy career. It will provide you with a breadth of knowledge enabling you to move on to complete qualifications in a range of renewable energy technologies. Plumbers, electricians or practicing domestic installers. However, if you are simply looking for a strong grounding in this industry and its principle technologies, then this course could be ideal. 2399-01 Award in Environmental Technology (Renewable Energy Course) 1 day 9am to 5pm 20th May This course is made up of two units; 2399-11 and 2399-12. 2399-11 focuses on technical expertise in fitting solar PV equipment. 2399-12 focuses on technical maintenance and inspection of solar PV equipment. Those who wish to install and commission solar PV systems. City and Guilds 2399-13. Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems. 4 days 9am to 5pm 21st May Pre-course preparation Background information and government issued documents to be read with some self assessment study questions to be completed before start date course. 3 days 9am - 5pm 30th April, 21st May and 24th July 3 days 9am to 5pm plus portfolio work 25th March, 16th April and 11th June - 895 + VAT Combined DEA and Green Deal Domestic Advice: 1895 + VAT COMBINED COURSE - 195 + VAT MCS/PAS2030 Seminar - 695 + VAT Understanding the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and the PAS 2030 process. MCS isi a mark of quality and demonstrates compliance to industry standards. It highlights to consumers that companies are able to consistently install or manufacture to the highest quality every time. PAS 2030 process is the standard against which installation companies wishing to participate in the Green Deal will be certified. - 1195 + VAT Dates 30th April or 19th June 75 + VAT 13 14

Engineering Engineering Introduction Our engineering and welding programmes are designed to fit your exact professional development requirements whether that be brazing and soldering, or AutoCad. Our courses are accredited to industry recognised standards allowing you to progress your career or take advantage of one of the many skilled job opportunities available within these disciplines. Our welding, cutting and brazing/soldering provision has been developed in partnership with the Weldabilty SIf Foundation to offer successful progression from traineeships through to apprenticeships and to becoming professional welders in industry, recognised by the Welding Institute. Introduction to Welding This programme covers four single-unit qualifications each focusing on a particular process, with an overall qualification in introductory welding skills. People entering the profession or existing welders looking to gain an accredited qualification supported by the Welding Institute. EAL Level 1 Award in Introductory Welding Skills Wednesday 6pm to 9pm for 10 weeks Thursday 6pm to 9pm for 10 weeks 17th April and 9th May 450 Discipline specific welding There are a variety of courses offered. Engineering Engineering Intermediate AutoCad Advanced AutoCad Introduction to SolidWorks 3D Design This course takes students with little or no knowledge of computer aided design, and gives them a good basic knowledge of 2D CAD. The course has wide applications and is largely practical, delivered as a mixture of demonstration, instruction and workshop. This course is highly suited for people who want to use AutoCAD professionally or those who would like to achieve a recognised qualification to further their career development. City & Guilds 7579 Level 2 Award Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing Tuesday and Thursday 6pm to 9pm 9 weeks TBC 600 This course will teach the learner to become familiar with the necessary techniques required to produce and edit drawings of medium complexity and prepare the drawings for output to hard copy. This course is highly suited for people who want to use advanced AutoCAD professionally or those looking to build their existing qualifications in AutoCad for career development. City & Guilds 7579 Level 3 Award Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing Tuesday and Thursday 6pm to 9pm 9 weeks TBC 600 This introductory course provides a foundation in SolidWorks 3D design solutions, tools and techniques using our state-of-the art-facilities. Health and Safety First Aid Health and Safety First Aid Introduction Health and safety is an ever-increasing part of any business s training and development needs. This course is intended for people with strategic responsibility for determining and implementing effective health and safety management within an organisation. IOSH Managing Safely This course enables you, the lone worker, to stay up to date with your clients working practices. Learn how to carry out your own risk assessment, be sure you are covered to work on somebody else s site, find out about permits to work (PPE, security and compliance issues) and keep records to protect you and your employer. Personnel working on remote sites 2-3 hours This course is designed to help delegates to understand basic first aid and acquire knowledge on medical conditions. Delegates will learn how to act safely and promptly when practising first aid at work. Those interested in increasing their understanding of first aid in the work place. HSE First Aid at Work 3 days To keep up to date with changes in process in giving first aid. For individuals already holding a current or expired First Aid at Work qualification. Bespoke Training, Funding and Group Bookings Payment and Funding Options Bespoke Training This booklet showcases only those programmes which we are currently running to meet demand. North Hertfordshire College works with many organisations to deliver bespoke training to suit the needs of the employer. If you have a training need which is not covered in this booklet then please contact us to discuss. Fully Funded Training Our goal is to support eligible individuals, employers and organisations. We are passionate about making a difference to individuals, their companies and the local community. We are able to offer full-funded programmes for staff aged 19 or over who have less than 5 A-C GCSEs or equivalent to help boost their performance. Group Bookings The prices in this booklet are based on individual learners enrolling. If you have a group of people that you wish you enrol on our programmes, we can tailor our provision to meet your needs. This can include onsite delivery of our programmes anywhere in the UK. Electrical, Engineering, Welding & Valeting Payment can be made; In person at the Stevenage Skills Centre. We accept all major credit (except American Express) and debit cards. Through an invoice raised by North Hertfordshire College for the course(s). Payment to be received either in advance of the start date or on the day of enrolment. The exception is for those learners enrolled on the C&G 2365 Level 2 Electrical Installation programmes lasting 46 weeks where the following payment terms can apply; 30% of fee payable prior to start date. Balance payable in equal instalments over 6 months. Renewable Our renewable provision is in partnership with Group Horizon. An invoice will be issued, which will include VAT. Payment must be made in advance of the programme starting. Health and Safety Our health and safety courses are run through the Goldsmith Centre. Payment terms will be advised at the time of booking a course. 25 26

North Hertfordshire College s Goldsmith Apprenticeship Academy offers a wide range of Apprenticeships at intermediate, advanced and higher levels including construction, engineering and motor vehicle. Our Apprenticeships have been designed with the help of employers to offer a structured programme of training and development which takes the apprentice through the essential skills which are needed to add value to your business. If you employ less than 1000 employees you may be able to access the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers, a 1500* grant available to employers who recruit a 16 to 24 year old into their business as an apprentice.
