10 Vehicle Inspection Training including irtec The Manchester College offers a 1, 2 or 3 day vehicle inspection course which has been designed specifically for people who are responsible for the scheduled maintenance of Commercial Vehicles and preparation of these vehicles for annual testing. The course allows candidates to employ a more systematic approach to inspecting vehicles allowing them to maximise their chances of detecting defects that would have otherwise failed under normal operating processes, attract a prohibition or indeed attract a failure at annual test. The course will introduce the categorisation of defects according to the DVSA inspection manual, examine the differences between DVSA minimum standards and manufactures recommended wear tolerances, both of which may result in a significant reduction in cost and down time associated with vehicle maintenance processes. The courses are available as either a standalone programme with a practical assessment and The Manchester College certificate or with Irtec inspection technician accreditation which is valid for 5 years. Irtec is an accreditation scheme that assesses the safety and competence of technicians who maintain and repair vehicles in the passenger carrying industry. The vehicle inspection course is split practically and theoretically and can be delivered to 2-4 candidates at a time; the prices quoted include all registration fees, hospitality fees and course material fees. Each candidate will receive a current DVSA vehicle inspection manual and the enforcement sanctions policy All of our technical trainers have a vast amount of professional experience in the Commercial Vehicle maintenance and repair industry; they have completed DVSA training and are also Irtec inspection technician accredited. 18 Technical Training Courses Technical Training Courses 19

12 Level 4 Advanced Studies - Master Technician Hybrid Vehicle Awareness - 2 Day Course Course Aim The purpose and aim of the Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Studies for Master Technicians is to offer individuals, who are experienced technicians in the commercial vehicle industry, the opportunity to develop their technical knowledge and management techniques. Course Content The qualification is delivered over 5x 3 day block release sessions. Learners will develop their knowledge of: Management principles Advanced vehicle technologies, including alternative fuel vehicles Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers on technical matters Providing colleagues with technical advice and support The typical learner for this qualification will be working in the LCV industry and will hold a Level 3 automotive technical qualification and/or an Advanced Apprenticeship. They will have experience of diagnosing and rectifying faults on a wide range of vehicle systems, including electrical system operations. They will provide technical guidance to colleagues; learners may have been identified as having future management potential. Course Outcome Upon successful completion of the course the learner will be competent with the diagnosis and repair of complex technical faults and be able to support a team, delegate work and provide technical guidance and coaching. They will be able to advise colleagues on technical issues and deal with complaints. Course Aim The course is developed by IMI awards Ltd and its primary aim is to ensure technicians working with electric hybrid vehicles have the knowledge and awareness required to work on these vehicles comfortably. Course Content The course is delivered over two days and the qualification is designed for technicians who maintain and repair hybrid technology vehicles, but not the hybrid system itself. It contains the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle s hybrid system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. This knowledge is tested via a multiplechoice test. Therefore on completing this single unit qualification, technicians will have gained both knowledge of high voltage hybrid technologies and an understanding of their dangers. Course Outcome On successful completion of the course technicians will be able to work safely around the systems on electric hybrid vehicles and electronically propelled vehicles. The candidate will have an understanding of the safety awareness whilst working on vehicles with this type of drivetrain. 22 Technical Training Courses Technical Training Courses 23
