4 They said Support workers Jodie Dunn and Trevor Young have sung the praises of tutors at Redcar & Cleveland College after completing a Circular Saw training course. They work in the Swan Garden Furniture enterprise at Upsall Hall Rural Centre near Guisborough, where they support adults with learning difficulties to gain new work skills. Both come from a background of care work, and while Trevor has skills in metal work, they needed vital training when they took up the role of bespoke furniture-building at the learning disabilities day centre. They were enrolled on a half-day course at Redcar & Cleveland College to enable them to get the best use out of circular saws when building a variety of garden furniture, bin covers and planters, which are then sold to members of the public and local authorities. If I m being honest, when I was told I was going on a course I wasn t very enthusiastic, said Trevor. I didn t think it would be very useful, but I couldn t have been more wrong. The course was excellent. We were taught not only how to use a variety of circular saws for cutting wood and getting the best finish, but how to use them safely. Hilary McGee, Community Inclusion Manager at the centre, said: Redcar & Cleveland College was excellent. They asked us what we needed and how we wanted the course delivered and then they worked around us it was easy. We would definitely use the College again. The Green House is a fully functional domestic property on the College site, equipped with the very best in renewable energy from solar panels and photovoltaic (PV) systems to ground and air source heat pump installation and rainwater harvesting tanks. Trainees will learn how the latest technologies are used in sustainable living and will also gain the vital installation and maintenance skills required for your business. In partnership with Renewable Energy (Environmental Technologies) Course Level Duration Description Solar Thermal System 3 1 day Provides candidates with the skills and knowledge required to fit solar thermal collectors on domestic First Fix Installer and small-scale commercial properties. BPEC Solar Thermal Hot 3 3 days Expands experienced Heating and Plumbing Installers knowledge and skills to include installation of Water Systems solar thermal hot water systems. Solar Photovoltaic First Fix 3 1 day Provides candidates with the skills and knowledge to fit solar panel arrays on domestic and Installer small-scale commercial properties. BPEC Ground & Air Source 3 3 days Provides candidates with the skills and knowledge required to confidently propose, survey, design and Heat Pumps install domestic or small commercial heat pump installations. Covers up to 24kW for ground source and 16kW for air source. BPEC Rainwater 3 2 days Provides candidates with the skills and knowledge required to specify, install and maintain rainwater Harvesting & Greywater harvesting and greywater recycling systems. Recycling BPEC Renewable Energy 3 2 days Provides candidates with an understanding of the issues, economics and technologies of domestic Technologies Awareness renewable energy systems. Explains what each technology can and cannot do and covers costs, payback periods and available grants. BPEC Certificate in 3 1 week Enables participants to carry out energy performance assessment of domestic dwellings. Domestic Energy Assessment Award in Domestic Energy 3 2 days A top-up certificate for candidates currently holding an existing Level 3 E.P.C. qualification. Assessment (Professional Development) BPEC Diploma in Green 3 1 week Provides candidates with the skills and knowledge required to offer green deal advice and Deal Advice subsequent funding for energy saving improvements to domestic properties. IEE Wiring Regulations 3 12 weeks Aimed at Electricians with relevant experience and Surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to 17th Edition C&G 2382 update and enhance their understanding of IEE Wiring Regulations. 7 Our gas training and assessment centre offers specialist domestic gas training and assessment courses, designed to update the skills of Plumbers and Heating Engineers and other industry professionals to ensure that gas work is carried out to meet all current standards and regulations. The Centre is BPEC (Certification Ltd) approved and staffed by fully qualified and experienced training and assessment tutors who can offer advice and support, as well as a relaxed environment in which to undertake training and assessment. Gas Centre Course Duration Description CKR1 Initial Assessment ½ day Tests the knowledge, understanding and competence of an operative working on any type of domestic gas cooker. CKR1 Reassessment ½ day Tests the knowledge, understanding and competence of an operative working on any type of domestic gas cooker. For experienced operatives requiring reassessment. CKR1 Training ½ day Provides candidates with the understanding and skills relating to the installation, exchange, disconnection services and repair of domestic gas cookers. CCN1 & Appliances 1 day Updates/refreshes candidates knowledge relating to the safety regulations, procedures and British standards Reassessment Training required when working on gas installations.
