Greetings from St Bede s While the senior school are busy in class making their last preparations, the year 13s have the ball to look forward to tonight which is a night to be enjoyed not only by them but by the many staff who attend, and of course many parents and in some case grandparents. It is a special night on the school calendar. Summer sport is well under way and we wish the rowers all the best in Dunstan this week and we congratulate the cricketers for making their way into the Gillette final, which will be played next week. The winner of that game goes to the national finals in December. At assembly we impressed upon, particularly the seniors, to finish the year well on all fronts. Obviously they have an academic focus but we also made the point of finishing well in other areas as well. The Leavers Mass on 4 November is one way we also finish well when the Year 13s are farewelled. Year 13s were encouraged to finish well in the manner they say farewell to each other and to staff, and if necessary burying the hatchet with some they may have had differences with in the past. Closure to past tensions and forgiveness for them shows maturity and helps everyone leave the place in a better frame of mind. Henry Wynn-Williams Year 12 Student SVO Group Member Champion Centre This year, the St. Bede s Service Group has been very active in the community. In particular, efforts to raise money for the Champion Centre, a Christchurch charity that provides early intervention for children with developmental disabilities. We were aware of the important work done by the Champion Centre, and felt that there was an opportunity for us to do something for this worthy cause. We got in touch with the Development Manager at the Centre to find out how we could help them. This we did by fundraising and it has been a huge success. We have already raised approximately $1,500 and are still planning another sausage sizzle fundraiser in week 3 term 4.

Aside from the money that the Service Group has raised, we are even more proud of the way we were able to spread the Champion Centre s message and draw attention to the great work this organisation is doing. We spoke at Assembly in term 3 and believe our message resonated with the school. It has not only made more students aware what the Champion Centre is, but the great work that the Service Group does. The Service Group was responsible for this initiative and has been involved every step of the way. More importantly, we are delighted how everybody has risen to the occasion and has given the Service Group something to work for to which everyone has contributed. Mrs Clare Kissick Director of Sport Honour Pockets Congratulations to the following who were awarded Honour Pockets in Assembly this week. Surfing Seb Johnson Cricket Congratulations to the 1 st XI Cricket team who beat Christ College in the Semi-final of the Gillette Cup, they will play the winner of St Andrew s College and Christchurch Boys High School on Wednesday, 28 October at Hagley Oval, so it will be a great occasion playing on the oval.
