1 Job Description POSITION TITLE: Intern TEAM: REPORTS TO TEAM LEADER: Pastor TYPE OF POSITION: Intern BASIC FUNCTION: the Internship program will be a chance for individuals to learn about through hands- on experience. During the course of this internship the individual will assist in the ministry and be challenged to grow in their spiritual walk, personal life and professional future. MISSION/FOCUS: For God s grace to grow in students, among students, through students. Bringing the fullness of Jesus to all of life. Commitment: 1 year with a 90 day probationary period (subject to performance review) Qualifications: - A vital, healthy, growing, and maturing relationship with Jesus Christ - Proven character and good reputation - Heart for Students - Commitment and support of Leadership, Vision, and Strategy - Commitment and support of Grace Fellowship s Mission, Doctrine and Leadership - Active member of a local church body (large group, small group, serving, time with God) At the end of the internship, the intern should be able to Begin to formulate and articulate a philosophy of youth ministry Identify the key characteristics of adolescence, as well as the impact of family, society, and church on adolescents Explain the rationale behind the model of youth ministry the church uses. Formulate and execute campus ministry on multiple campuses with students and administration Articulate the demographics of the community and the services available through the local community Learn and describe the importance of the youth minister, whether professional or volunteer, in effective leadership of adolescents and their families Write and lead a bible study appropriate for middle school & high school students Initiate exploratory conversation with parents and with several subcultures of adolescents Develop and produce a Wildfire, Venture and Small Group experience once a month Build a yearlong teaching plan that includes a variety of events and topics geared toward middle school students felt and real needs. Learn to manage and develop budgets Run an effective meeting Recruit and interview potential volunteers

2 By the end of the internship, the intern will have experienced Weekly church staff meetings in order to better understand how the whole church operates Weekly bible study as an observer and a leader Participating in the organization and leadership of a week long mission trip Producing a variety of communication tools: fliers, church and youth ministry announcements, calendars and permission slips Participate in planning and strategy meetings During this internship, the intern can expect Weekly or biweekly meetings with the supervisor Exposure to the full scope of the ministry, including administrative areas (budget development, hiring and development of volunteer staff, church staff meetings, congregational meetings and counseling appointments when appropriate). Timely payment of salary. Flexibility in scheduling to maintain part- time job to supplement income During this internship, the church can expect that the intern will Show up on time to all meetings and responsibilities. Dress appropriately for the ministry situation Maintain a model lifestyle during the internship Immediately inform the supervisors of any areas of concern or conflict Sample Weekly schedule for intern: Monday: 9:00am to 2:00pm (5 hours) Tuesday: 9:00am to 2:00pm (5 hours) Wednesday: 11:00am to 3:00pm (4 hours) Thursday: 11:00am to 3:00pm (4 hours) Friday: Day off Saturday: Flex Day Sunday: Morning: 9:00am to 10:45am (approx. 2 hours) Evening: 3:30pm to 8:30pm (approx. 5 hours) *Retreats and mission trip are not included in weekly 25 hours. Supervision and Evaluation: The intern will report directly to the Pastor and the Executive Pastor. The intern will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and staff meetings (as classes allow). The intern will be required to read, Your First Two Years in Youth Ministry (Fields), How to Volunteer like a Pro (Hancock), Purpose Driven Youth Ministry (Fields), and Help I m a

3 Student Leader! (Fields). The intern will also be required to keep it daily Journal about their experience. The workweek will begin on Sunday run through Thursday, except when activities require participation on other days. Interns will be taught and evaluated on ministry experiences throughout each season. Please see Intern Experience Checklist. The intern will meet with the Pastor every week to go through their journal and progress through the books. The journal will help direct the course of conversation and direction for teaching. The intern will be paid $200 for each week of employment. This position is without benefits and will run through one school year.
