I would like to give a big thank you to all the volunteers, judges, children, parents, sponsors, and the local CSI (Construction Specifications Institute)! It was well received by the parents, and we had some great pictures. Please go to our website for a look. It is a great event and the kids really start thinking about what they can do or who they can become when they grow up. (We would hope they would pick construction). Our speaker this month is one of our own members, Shawn Nass. She will be talking about the healthcare law. Please join us at our regular meeting on Monday February 18, and learn about the effects of this new law. Next month we will be celebrating WIC week, (Women in Construction). Events will be posted on our website as well. Please stay informed of what our chapter has going on and feel free to join us anytime. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have. Holly Goodin, CIT

COMMITTEE UPDATES...page 2 of 2 Sherri Bollinger, CIT Tech Electronics of Spfd. Professional Ed Chair Sherri.bollinger@techelectronics.com February 2013 -Guest Speaker: Shawn Nass Life & Health Manager/Producer Theme: Healthcare Reform Overview January 1, 2013 mandated some new changes to healthcare. Health care reform (under the Affordable Care Act) is also shaping the healthcare providers for the changes that will be in effect in 2014. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will Health care reform affect health insurance as it pertains to Medicare? Medicaid? Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)? Key parts of the health care law take effect in 2014. There will be a new way to obtain health insurance coverage: the Health Insurance Marketplace. What is or will be Missouri s Marketplace? Although implementation of the details is complex and with nearly one-fifth of America s GDP effected, January 1, 2014 is still the date for the law s main parts to be mandated. Shawn Nass, has been with Barkers-Phillips-Jackson for six years and is a Life and Health Manager. This is one meeting that affects all members. You DO NOT want to miss. Please be sure to bring a guest!
MEMBER PROFILE MEET SONYA HAYWARD, CIT I have worked at Arning Companies for over 22 years. Originally we manufactured and installed convenience store canopies. Casey's General Stores, Kum and Go, and Hy-Vee are some of our largest customers. Over the years, we have increased our product lines in order to diversify. One of our latest products is a wall panel system. This application utilizes the same aluminum composite material we use on the canopies but in a different manner. This is applied to buildings, interior or exterior, but lately the car dealership market has taken off. We recently completed the exterior at Mayse in Aurora and will be doing Thompson Cadillac soon. At Arning, we currently have around 79 employees. For the installation of our products, we use subcontractors where we have around 10 to 15 crews. Since I have been at Arning for so many years, I wear many hats. I am the Accounting Manager, Human Resource Manager, IT Director, to name a few of my duties. I also answer lots of questions due to my experience. Currently we are changing software systems, which I am also in charge of. I am married to a wonderful man who takes care of the home front. By his doing this, I am able to work the long hours I do. We have five boys between us. Currently we have two in college. Clay is hoping to get into radiology school this fall and Kory is at Mizzou. We have two dogs and three cats that keep us smiling. When I'm not working, I love to go on walks and see the wildlife. I also like to read, crochet and soon will be trying my hand at quilting. I have been a member of NAWIC since 2009. I have been on the Board as both a director and as secretary. I am currently the PR/Marketing chair for our Region. I have been fortunate to be able to attend a National Education Conference along with many regional meetings. NAWIC is a great association that allows us to grow, to overcome issues of doubt while helping us at our careers. The people I have met have become my friends. I would urge anyone to actively seek opportunities with NAWIC at whatever level you are comfortable with. As with many things, the more you put into this, the more you will get out. Sonya Hayward, Office Manager Arning Companies, Inc.
