You ll lear about these toward the ed of this chapter ad i the chapter s olie material. If you have istalled Exchage before withi your orgaizatio, this might seem a little familiar. However, if you were t ivolved i the istallatio of your Exchage servers, some of the cocepts preseted might be ew to you. Do t worry, though. The tools ad utilities provided with Exchage 2003 make istallatio as pailess as possible. Verifyig Prerequisites Before you ca begi your istallatio, you will eed to esure that you have met the prerequisites for istallig Exchage 2003 i your orgaizatio. You first looked at
20 CHAPTER 3 Istallatio these requiremets i Chapter 1, Itroducig Microsoft Exchage Server 2003, but here is a quick checklist to ru through before you proceed further: Is the target server part of a etwork with DNS ad WINS istalled ad cofigured? Do your domai cotroller, catalog servers, ad Active Directory ru o Widows 2000 Server SP3 or Widows Server 2003? Do you have a server that has at least a Itel Petium 133MHz or greater processor, with 256MB of RAM, 500MB of disk space, ad 200MB available o the system drive? Are the drives i the server formatted usig the NT File System (NTFS), as opposed to the FAT file system? Is the server operatig system either Widows 2000 Server SP3+ or Widows Server 2003? Have the followig compoets bee istalled ad cofigured? Iteret Iformatio Services (IIS) World Wide Web Publishig Service Simple Mail Trasfer Protocol (SMTP) service Network News Trasfer Protocol (NNTP) service NET Framework ASP.NET PREREQUISITES ON WINDOWS SERVER 2003 If you re ruig Widows Server 2003 o the computer that will hold Exchage, double-check those IIS-related prerequisites. Remember that Widows 2003 does t istall IIS or ay of its compoets by default, so you must make sure that these items are selected for istallatio. After you have verified that you have these prerequisites covered, you ca start preparig your eviromet to istall Exchage. Exchage Deploymet Tools Whe you first place your Exchage 2003 CD i your CD-ROM drive, the Exchage Server 2003 Setup splash scree (show i Figure 3.1) opes. From the iitial meu, you have access to Exchage 2003 documetatio ad the deploymet tools that are available for this versio.

The followig sectio covers preparig to istall Exchage usig some of these utilities. Preparig for Istallatio Similar to the setup requiremets for Exchage 2000, you eed to ru the ForestPrep utility i your Active Directory Forest prior to istallig Exchage. Ruig ForestPrep The versio of ForestPrep that ships with Exchage 2003 is similar to the versio you might have used before; however, you will still eed to ru the utility to pick up chages that were made to Active Directory for this versio of Exchage. To ru the ForestPrep utility, you must be logged i to the domai as a member of the Eterprise Admiistrator ad Schema Admiistrator groups. You must also be a domai admiistrator ad have admiistrator rights o the local machie. To ru the ForestPrep utility, follow these steps: 1. From a commad prompt, ru D:\setup\i386\setup /ForestPrep (if D: is your CD-ROM drive) to ru the Exchage Istallatio Wizard. Click Next to cotiue. 2. O the Compoet Selectio page of the Istallatio Wizard, chage the actio to ForestPrep ad click Next.

Exchage Setup ca do ForestPrep for you, if ecessary. However, you ll wat to explicitly ru it yourself because ay Widows 2000 forest (or Widows 2003 forest that is ruig i the Widows 2000 fuctioal level) must rebuild all Global Catalog databases after the schema chage. That ca be a legthy process i a large forest; by explicitly ruig ForestPrep, you ca cotrol whe it happes. Ruig DomaiPrep DomaiPrep for Exchage Server 2003 is similar to its previous couterpart ad is used to prepare the domais where you pla to istall Exchage 2003. Agai, you eed to ru this utility eve if you have ru DomaiPrep for a previous Exchage istallatio. DomaiPrep creates the ecessary groups, cotaiers, ad permissios required by Exchage ad performs a preistallatio check. To ru DomaiPrep, you must be logged i as a Domai Admiistrator for the domai you are workig with. You also eed local admiistrator rights o the server where you are workig. To ru the DomaiPrep utility, follow these steps:
23 Creatig a New Exchage Istallatio 1. From a commad prompt, ru D:\setup\i386\setup /DomaiPrep (if D: is your CD- ROM drive) to ru the Exchage Istallatio Wizard. Click Next to cotiue. 2. O the Compoet Selectio page of the Istallatio Wizard, chage the actio to DomaiPrep ad click Next. 3. Eter a Exchage Server admiistrator accout. Click Next to start the DomaiPrep procedure, ad click Fiish whe you re doe. You eed to ru the DomaiPrep i your root domai ad every other domai where you pla to istall a Exchage 2003 server or domais where you have Mailbox-eabled objects, users, or groups. DOMAINPREP: NO BIG DEAL DomaiPrep does t icur the overhead that ForestPrep does. If you forget to ru DomaiPrep yourself, Exchage Setup hadles it, ad othig bad happes. Creatig a New Exchage Istallatio The easiest way to deploy Exchage is with a fresh ew istallatio, which is what this sectio examies. Although a fresh istallatio might ot be practical for orgaizatios that are curretly ruig Exchage, this istallatio method ca provide a good testig eviromet or serve as the base istallatio for a migratio from aother mail system. MIGRATING FROM EXCHANGE 2000 If you are ruig Exchage 2000 ad wat to upgrade to Exchage 2003, see Upgradig from Exchage 2000, page 26. To create a ew Exchage istallatio, you eed to esure that you have met all the prerequisites listed earlier ad that you have a server (or servers) that meets the miimum requiremets as set out i Chapter 2, Architecture. You must be logged i to the domai as a user who has Exchage Full Admiistrator privileges at the orgaizatioal level. You also eed to be set up as the local admiistrator o the server where you wat to istall Exchage. SECURITY CHANGES Somethig ew with Exchage 2003 is that it is oly the first Exchage server that eeds to be set up by a user who has Exchage Full Admiistrator privileges at the orgaizatioal level. To istall additioal servers, the user oly eeds to have Exchage Full Admiistrator privileges at the admiistrative group level.
24 CHAPTER 3 Istallatio The followig sectio details how to istall Exchage o the first server i your plaed topology. To istall additioal servers, you would follow the same steps, except istead of creatig a ew Exchage orgaizatio, you would simply joi a existig Exchage orgaizatio. To istall your first (ad subsequet) Exchage servers, follow these steps: 1. From a commad prompt, ru D:\setup\i386\setup (where D: is your CD-ROM drive) to ru the Exchage Istallatio Wizard. Click Next to cotiue after each step. 2. Accept the licese agreemet ad eter your Exchage product key. 3. Usig the Compoet Selectio dialog box show i Figure 3.3, select the Exchage compoets you wat to istall by chagig the drop-dow list to Istall. FIGURE 3.3 Compoet selectio. 4. I the Istallatio Type dialog box, select the optio to Create a New Exchage Orgaizatio. 5. Eter a ew ame for your orgaizatio by usig a combiatio of letters, umbers, spaces, dashes, or hyphes. 6. Verify the compoets you wat to istall by usig the dialog box show i Figure 3.4. Accept the fial licese agreemet ad click Fiish at the ed of the Istallatio Wizard. This begis istallatio of the compoets you selected earlier. Whe the istallatio is fiished, a Microsoft Exchage program group is added to the Start meu with the tools you use to cofigure ad maage Exchage. CONCURRENT INSTALLATIONS If you are plaig to istall multiple Exchage servers at oce (for disaster recovery or to decrease dowtime), Exchage 2003 has a special switch that you ca use to esure that the istallatios ca ru cocurretly. Whe you re followig the previous steps, ru SETUP by usig the /ChooseDC switch to eter the domai ame of a specific Active Directory domai cotroller. This eables you to force all the servers to commuicate with the same domai cotroller ad elimiate problems experieced whe istallig cocurretly usig Exchage 2000. If you would like to cofirm that the istallatio completed successfully, the Exchage Istallatio Wizard geerates a log file that is available i the C: drive of the server where you istalled Exchage. This log file, show i Figure 3.5, displays a ruig commetary o the istallatio process. At the ed of the log, the commetary should idicate whether Exchage was istalled successfully. EVENT VIEWER You ca fid more iformatio about the istallatio process i the Widows Evet Viewer, which provides etries i the applicatio log that relate to the istallatio of Exchage compoets. FORCED INSTALLATION OF ASP.NET If you are ruig Widows 2000, the Exchage setup program automatically forces a istallatio of the.net Framework ad ASP.NET whe you istall Exchage. With those compoets removed, you eed to go through the prerequisite checklist discussed earlier i this chapter. Specifically, if your Exchage 2000 servers are ruig o Widows 2000 Server, you eed to make sure that these servers have bee updated to Service Pack 3 or greater. It s importat to ote that you caot use this istallatio method to istall the first Exchage server i your orgaizatio. This method is oly valid for servers that are added to your orgaizatio after the first server is istalled ad cofigured. If you pla to cluster your Exchage servers, you caot use a uatteded istallatio. Likewise, you caot employ this method i Exchage implemetatios that mix Exchage versios or for upgradig Exchage 2000 servers (which would have bee a ice feature to have for this release.) To perform a uatteded istallatio, you first eed to create a aswer file that cotais iformatio o all the compoets ad settigs for subsequet istalls. To create a aswer file to use with a uatteded setup ad lauch a uatteded setup usig this file, follow these steps: 1.
