Very young children need to be with adults who have these qualities because relationships with such adults are critical to their optimal development

Entry requirements Entry MBCE Direct from school via SATAC Tertiary Transfer via SATAC STAT test (only for students over 21 years who do not have a TER/ Year 12) TAFE entry graduates of Diploma in Children s Services (credit given for one year of the MBCE) Entry MBCG Existing minimum 3 year degree in non education field.

MBCE program s length, and contact hours 4 years full time Can be done part time Contact hours very rough guide only They vary considerably - approximately 3 hours per week per course, and a minimum of another 6 hours per week in student s own time. All practicum placements must be done full time.
MBCG program s length, and contact hours 2 years full time Can be done part time Contact hours very rough guide only They vary considerably - approximately 3 hours per week per course, and a minimum of another 6 hours per week in student s own time. All practicum placements must be done full time.
Structure of MBCE program The MBCE program is conducted over four years, with 4 courses per study period for full time students Key study areas are curriculum, child development, practicum, education studies and 3 electives, with one compulsory Indigenous study Majors are in curriculum and child development There are assumed knowledge requirements for mathematics and science. This means that if you do not meet the requirements in the first two years of the program you will need to take courses in these topic areas. You will need to use two of your electives to do this.
Structure of MBCG program The MBCG is conducted over 2 years full time or longer part time, with 4 courses per study period Specifically, there are 7 curriculum courses, 2 child development courses, 4 practicum courses, and 3 education studies courses There are no research or elective courses
Noteworthy aspects of the MBCE Practicums in three different types of early childhood settings, childcare, sessional preschool and junior primary school every year, with one choice of location in the final year Research capacity developed Child development and curriculum majors Shared education studies courses with other education students Students often work in childcare and out of school hours care settings as they study, and can become qualified after completing the first 2 years of the MBCE 100 years of early childhood education in South Australia (Lillian de Lissa founder 1907) Overseas exchange possibilities In final year award-winning Lapsit program An important step in the pathway to leadership in early childhood education with Masters, and PhD for high performing honours students.

Scholarships and Prizes MBCE and MBCG Scholarships Undergraduate entry students who wish to return to the country and work in a school or preschool position may apply for a DECS country incentive scholarship from the beginning of their degree (contact DECS) The Catholic Education Office country incentive scheme Prizes Upon graduation, there are several prizes for the practicum, and for academic excellence, The Lydia Longmore award, The de Lissa Graduates Prize, The SATISFAC award, the Early Childhood Australia Prize, and Unibooks Prize, and a Graduates prize for MBCG students.
Our graduates Graduates work with children Birth to 8 Years in institutional and non-institutional settings, or in agencies which are concerned with children of that age range, for example, health and local government. Most jobs are in Junior Primary and Sessional Preschool Schools and Kindergartens, Long Day Childcare Centres and other related settings Department of Education and Children s Services, Catholic Education, Independent Schools, Long Day Child Care Centres, and other related agencies. Further Study Options Masters, and PhD, generally after some workforce experience
