28th October 2016 Congratulations What an amazing effort! Alicia Evan s Carrum-Patterson Schools Lawn Bowling team came runners-up in a tie break at the State Finals at Darebin Bowls Club. Super effort Alicia! Bonbeach Farmers Market! Sunday 13th November Open from 8:30am to 12:30pm $2 donation per adult http://us13.campaign-archive2.com/?u=2276905e29bd243e62bbe9d94&id=8aed3dd237

Aerobics On Saturday the 15 th of October, the Bonbeach aerobics teams competed at the Arena, Geelong. We entered two teams, the Bonbeach Bullets and the Bonbeach Blizzards. We were very excited and couldn t wait to compete. First the Bonbeach Bullets performed. About an hour later the Blizzards performed. There were lots of other schools and clubs there, which meant, lots of standing and waiting. When all the contestants had performed, the presentation started. Both of our teams were in the classic section. They announced the results. The Blizzards came a very close second with a score of 72.3. The Bullets finished in 6 th out of twelve teams. Our category had the most teams out of the whole day. It was a great experience for all the girls who had performed. At first it seemed nerve racking performing in front of hundreds of people, but after we performed, it felt amazing. We learned a lot from this and we re so glad we competed. Thank you.

SCHOOL NEWS SAVE THE DATE! This year s Christmas Concert will be held on Monday 19 th December 2016. Each grade will be preparing a Christmas inspired item to perform for the concert. More details will follow later on in the term. SCHOOL AEROBICS After such a fabulous effort and OUTSTANDING result from the 2016 Aerobics teams, School Aerobics will be offered to students in 2017. Tryouts for the team are on Wednesday 2 nd November 2016. These tryouts will be held in the hall during lunch time. All students in grades 4-6 are welcomed to attend the tryout session. Thank you, Miss Evans and Mrs. Batson. LOOKING FOR HELP! Some Grade 5 students have been busy meeting at lunchtime to form a Writer s Club. Each week they have shared ideas, jotted down lyrics and acted out different scenes with the combined goal of writing the school play for 2017. The Writer s Club is looking for interested parents or friends of Bonbeach that can add their expertise to this process. If you are interested in reading through the play to check for flow and concept, please leave your name and phone number at the Office and the Writer s Club will contact you shortly. Thank you, Kellie Batson COUNT US IN 2016! This year, Bonbeach PS will be joining Music: Count Us In. Music: Count Us In (MCUI) is Australia s biggest school initiative. In 2015, more than 550,000 students from over 2,100 schools participated nationwide. Music: Count Us In brings teachers, parents, students and the music industry together in celebration of music and music education. In 2016, the program is celebrating their 10th anniversary! Music: Count Us In exists to advocate for improved access to music education for all students across Australia. MCUI s Celebration day will be held on Thursday 3 November 2016. The day is celebrated nationally where right across the country all registered schools sing the same song, on the same day, at the same time. At midday, Bonbeach PS will be watching the live stream from the Sydney Opera House as a way to join in the action of Celebration Day. The live stream will include speeches, video packages, live music etc. and will conclude with the singing of Let It Play. The Prep/One/Two students will watch the streaming in the Grade Two building, Grade Three/Four students will watch the streaming in the BER and Grade Five/Six students will be watching the streaming in their classrooms. At approximately 12:25pm, the students will head out to the basketball courts to join in the singing as a whole school at 12:30. The school community are invited to come along and raise your voice to help us. Can we count you in? Kellie Batson Performing Arts Teacher

School Policies Update The recent School Council meeting saw a number of policies endorsed. These are in the process of being uploaded to the Bonbeach PS website at http://www.bonbeachps.vic.edu.au/page/199/policies The Education Subcommittee has done a great job updating and evaluating these policies. If you would like to attend our next Education Subcommittee meeting, this will be at 5:30pm on Tuesday, 22 nd November. Child Safety Working With Children Checks and volunteering at school As of the 1st January 2017, all volunteers who participate in school work eg changing readers, listening to students read, working bees, school council members, athletics day, excursions, canteen duty etc, MUST have a Working With Children Check. This is a part of the new Child Safe standards and is mandated through law (Ministerial Order 870). At the recent School Council meeting (13th September) the Working With Children Checks Policy was endorsed. This will be placed on the school website before the end of term, as well as an accompanying flowchart. To apply for a Working With Children Check, go to http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/. The Department of Justice advises that it can take approximately 3 weeks for the check to be completed, and a further 2 weeks for your card to arrive. As this check is for voluntary work, there is currently no fee. Working With Children Checks are valid for 5 years.

2017 Booklists Each child will be sent home with a 2017 Booklist in a couple of weeks. They are due back to the school office by Friday 2 nd December. Book collection and payment has been scheduled for Monday 30 th January 9am to 1pm at the school. A $10 discount applies to the purchase of the complete 2017 Booklist per student if payment is made in full by Friday 2 nd December 2016. Many families are using the Direct Deposit facility to make payments for camps, excursions and other requirements that occur during a school year. We even have some parents already making payments for their books for 2017. Most of these payments are for small amounts some as little as $5.00 a week. It really does add up and makes major payments so easy to manage.
