19 Steps to Developing an Internship Program at DSST Provide teacher and school based support throughout Designated internship coordinator to communicate with mentors and provide in school class for support Develop set of qualifications, responsibilities, & end product(s) All juniors must participate; school develops journal questions and students and mentors develop final project jointly Prepare students for internships by providing them basic job skills Partner organization provides 4 to 6 hour long sessions on professional attire, language, and conflict resolution Identify outside organizations that serve student interests School conducts outreach to businesses and universities in technology and science related fields to match student needs and find mentors Identify the career interests of all your high school students All sophomores receive briefing on internship options and hear juniors experience in the spring before choosing an internship for the following year 19
