OMAN: EARNING A REPUTATION AS A CENTER FOR HEALTHCARE IN THE REGION Oman s healthcare system is advanced and is highly regarded around the world. (BMI, Business Environment Rating Matrix for Q310) Health has the second largest expenditure allocation in Oman s 2012 budget (US$ 1.3 billion). Spending on health care is set to jump by 84%--from US$ 3.53 billion in the Seventh Five-Year Plan to US$ 6.47 billion in the Eighth Five-Year Plan. (United Securities) The increase is allocated for the improvement of existing facilities and funding of several new hospitals. The budget of the Ministry of Health will have to almost double by 2020 (US$ 12.9 billion), which could see the private health sector taking on a greater role. (Oxford Business Group) The market is expected to be worth US$ 2 billion by 2015 as a result of population growth, rising levels of lifestyle-related diseases and increased health insurance. (Report: Alpen Capital) The United Nations Human Development Report has listed Oman at the top of 135 countries that have made the greatest progress in recent decades in public health.
