Position reports to Child & Youth Team Leader Reportable Positions Childcare Assistant Position Purpose Qualifications To support the under 5 age group and their family by coordinating and providing a quality childcare program that is relevant for Karinya consumers and the community house. Diploma of Children s services Experience in Childcare Award (if applicable) Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry 2010 (terms & conditions) Classification Family Day Care level 3 Pay point dependant on experience 00.57 EFT 22hours per week Resource Management NIL Total staff management (EFT).47 EFT Prerequisites Current First Aid Certificate Working with Children Check Personal Competencies Required Willingness to work in accordance with The Salvation Army s mission and values, and comply with Official Minutes, policies and procedures. Demonstrates integrity and judgement in all dealings with individuals and organisational issues. Highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. High level of initiative with the ability to manage time. Ability to work effectively in a team. Demonstrated energy and enthusiasm. Job Competencies Required Ability to develop programs and plan activities suitable for preschool children with consideration of the individual child s need. Understand the impact of homelessness and family violence on the under 5 age group and their family. Sound knowledge of childcare regulations and the ability to apply appropriate policy and procedures. Demonstrated team building and leadership skills. Conflict resolution skills; promoting a positive work environment where conflict is addressed constructively. Key Result Areas Key Activities Standard Measures Coordination and delivery of childcare program Prepare, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate programs for children. Develop weekly plans for childcare activities. Ensure appropriate child/staff ratios are maintained at all times. Interact with children according to their age and developmental needs. Maintain appropriate range of resources, equipment and toys within budget. Provide assessment of children and where concerns arise, talk to parents about appropriate referrals. Record observations of individual children. Work with children within their own individual needs. Provide advice and support to parents. Children receive quality childcare that meets the child s need. Weekly plan is clear, concise and carried out by childcare staff. Childcare staffed in accordance with DEECD regulations, at all times. Resources, equipment and toys are adequate for the provision of quality childcare. Referrals, either in house or externally, are made when required. Observations are recorded and kept up-to-date. Individual needs of children are being met. Professional and appropriate advice is being offered to parents. Team Leadership Coordinate childcare to provide service according to the childcare regulations and standards. Supervise childcare assistant, trainee and students. Participate in the staff recruitment process. Provide staff with debriefing as required. Facilitate TSA staff appraisal process with childcare team members. Identify professional development and training needs for staff. Administration duties Assist with the review and development of childcare policies and procedures. Complete enrolment forms. Complete attendance records. Collect, balance and record childcare fees. Service delivery is consistently maintained in accordance with regulations and standards. Childcare team is working together effectively. Suitably qualified team maintained. Staff receive adequate debriefing and supervision on a monthly basis. Childcare staff team is actively participating in TSA staff appraisal process. Staff training needs are being met. Childcare policies are reviewed periodically and up to date at all times. Enrolment forms are completed accurately with up to date information. Attendance records completed accurately. Childcare fees are collected, balanced and recorded accurately. OH&S Maintain knowledge of OH&S/risk management policy and procedures. Provide risk assessments and incident reports as required. Promote a safe and healthy workplace. Comply with statutory requirements of TSA policy and Procedures. Professional development Participate in TSA performance appraisal process. Develop a performance plan for professional development in consultation with Team leader. Participate in professional development courses, workshops and forums. Engage in supervision monthly and debriefing as required Quality Improvement Develop programs in line with Childcare regulations and standards Other duties Perform other duties in accordance with the scope of this position.
