St John s is a place for the development of the mind, for innovation and creativity, for inspiration and wellbeing and for the nurturing of the spirit. Preparation for the responsibilities of leadership in tomorrow s local and global communities begins in Kindergarten and is progressively undertaken by our caring and committed teachers through to Year 12 as part of everyday community life. The Performing Arts are a vibrant part of the educational experience at St John s, where students can enjoy the rich content that recognises the whole student, fostering a sense of self, community, culture and spirituality. The unique point in our program in addition to the teaching of Music, Music Extension, Drama and Dance is our partnerships with industry professionals in the performance arts of dance, drama and music. 3 Our College The College is engaged in the fundamental task of forming and informing young minds and hearts. In promoting the good news of Jesus Christ among students and families and among staff members, the Gospel values faith, hope, love, courage, community and justice are central to all that we seek to do. The College is named after St John the Evangelist. St John started life as a fisherman by the Sea of Galilee, Lake Genesareth. With his family he owned a boat and nets. In those days this was a secure income and a comfortable life. When Jesus walked by Lake Genesareth, he called John and his brother, James, to leave this life and walk with him. The men were to give up the security of the world they knew to come on a challenging journey in uncharted waters. Jesus called his followers to hear his teaching and live it out in their own lives. Then he sent them out to proclaim the good news of how God s kingdom could be in the world. John was one of the first men and women to open their lives to Jesus call; to open their lives to Jesus vision of God s kingdom. At this College by the lake, we are encouraged to hear that same call. The College logo represents the values and beliefs that are foundational to life in the College. The colours and shape of the bishop s mitre represent our link with the Anglican Church. The cross is symbolic of our faith in Jesus Christ. The hands symbolise loving service to God and one another. The ripples connect us to Forest Lake. They are symbolic of the positive energy of God in our lives and the power of love to touch and transform our community. The College aligns with the Vision Statement for Anglican Schools in the Diocese of Brisbane. Details of the Vision Statement can be access by the following link.
