Barnardos supports children whose well being is under threat, by working with them, their families and communities and by campaigning for the rights of children. Barnardos was established in Ireland in 1962 and is Irelands leading Children s charity. What does our Project do? Barnardos services have the goals of improving the emotional well-being of children, and improving their capacity for learning and development. Barnardos is committed to interagency working and a partnership approach with families. Barnardos Family Support Service offers direct support to families to address the needs of children. The types of intervention usually include individual work with a child and/or a parent; parent and child work; family work; group work with children and adults, drop-in information and advice, and community activities. The types of support provided often include parenting support, practical support, and support to children in terms of managing behaviour, identity work, self esteem work, sibling work, and other issues as they arise. Where we work: Barnardos Family Support Service, Limerick North works with children and families on the north side of Limerick city and delivers services in families own homes and in a number of centres including Pineview Gardens in Moyross, Bishop St and St. Mary s Girls School in Kings Island. The administrative base for the staff team is in Pineview Gardens, Moyross. Who do we work with? Barnardos believes that an interagency approach is key to successful outcomes for families engaged with the service. Referrals for Limerick North are received primarily from the Child and Family Agency Child Protection and Welfare Social Work Dept in Ballynanty Health Centre and Roxtown Health Centre. Other services also refer i.e Public Health Nurses, Schools, Educational Welfare Officers and other Community and Projects. We also take referrals from family s themselves. While working with a referred family, regular contact is maintained with the referring agency, and review meetings are held with the family to ensure an effective and appropriate service is being offered. Project Worker Job Description Post: Location: Responsible to: Works with: Project Worker Limerick, primarily Barnardos Family Support Service, Limerick North Project Leader Service users, staff and external agencies Job purpose To develop and implement programmes that respond to the needs of children and families referred to the service working in partnership with families and other organisational, community and voluntary bodies. Core Job Requirements To assess the needs of the children and the families engaging with the project. To plan, implement and review programmes for children/young people/carers/families based on an assessment of their individual and group needs. To be vigilant for signs of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, neglect and any concerns regarding the welfare of children. To record concerns promptly and accurately. To consult with the Designated Person and take appropriate action in accordance with Barnardos Child Protection policy. To work with children/young people/carers/families in a variety of ways, including group work, individual work and family work, centre based and outreach work. To key work individual children/young people/carers/families in order to meet their needs and to advocate on their behalf. To liaise effectively with families and other statutory, community and voluntary bodies and to attend and contribute to reviews and case conferences as required. To work in partnership with other Barnardos services to best meet the needs of children and families by collaborating resources with planned interventions targeting groups/families of shared need. To keep regular records in relation to all aspects of work and prepare reports as required. To gather information statistics and prepare reports as required, including administration of databases as appropriate to the role.

To identify and document to the line manager any unmet needs of children/young people/carers/families within the service and to participate in the advocacy work of the agency.
