1 CHC50612 Diploma of Community Services Work Information and 2015
2 CHC50612 Diploma of Community Services Work Is this qualification for me? This qualification is for community workers with some experience from a range of disciplines, and focuses on the delivery of services and providing programs in a range of settings. This includes community education, advocacy and case management. Workers may be coordinators or have some responsibility for supervising others, however this is not a management-focused qualification. Client Service Assessor Case coordinator, case manager or case worker Community services worker Coordinator family services Early intervention worker Family support worker Social welfare worker Support facilitator You do need to have access to a supervised work placement in a relevant community service delivery setting, involving, for example, direct client work or community education or development. Your workplace supervisor will be required to contribute to the assessment of your abilities through completion of forms. Why should I undertake this qualification with CCWT? CCWT is a leading training provider for those in the community services sector. Our trainers have experience in this sector as well as expertise in adult education and training. 7 Can I have my current skills and knowledge recognised? Yes, you can elect to undertake Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for one or more units. If you think that you already have the skills for the unit, consult with the Course Coordinator. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can take between 6 and 12 months to complete How much does it cost? The total cost of the core units of this qualification is $3,902/$3677 VIP. This includes: Attendance at workshops Distance packages Assessment marking Issuing of qualification Morning, afternoon tea and lunch at all workshops Ongoing support through your period of enrolment with CCWT. This includes all core and elective units. The cost of the workshop can be further reduced if you are an experienced worker at this level and your work role (either current or recent past) reflects the types of tasks found in this qualification. In this case you may be eligible for RPL for one or more of the units, which significantly reduces the cost, especially for any units contained in workshops. This amount does not need to be paid up front. A payment plan will be negotiated with you after you have registered
8 Pathway 1 Learning and Assessment Pathways to a Qualification This pathway is recommended for participants who would like to either gain new skills and knowledge or update their existing skills and knowledge. Six of the modules for this qualification are offered as face to face modules. You need to attend these modules. To complete the remaining five modules you will be provided with distance kits. Assessment is by completion of written assessment tasks and through the completion of workplace tasks. You will draw on your workplace experience to complete these assessments. You may also find that you can submit examples of your work for part or all of your assessment requirements. Pathway 2 Assessment Only This pathway is for experienced community sector workers to demonstrate their skills and knowledge to gain a formal qualification. If you believe that you have the skills and knowledge required to achieve this qualification, and would like to have these recognized, then you need to apply for a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway. The Diploma of Community Services Work is available by RPL through a Portfolio approach. This requires you to gather evidence of your skills from your workplace, from other training courses that you have completed, or through your life skills and experience. This evidence is then supported by a conversation with an assessor. Our website has a link to the Self Assessment for this qualification completing this document will assist you in making a decision regarding RPL. It is possible to apply for RPL for some units and complete the remaining units through attendance at workshops or completing distance packages. Pathway 3 A Combination If you are experienced in some of the knowledge areas, you may apply for RPL for these units and complete the remaining units by learning and assessment. The cost for this pathway will be negotiated with the Course Coordinator. How do I know which pathway to choose? Before undertaking the Diploma of Community Services Work you can discuss your options with the Course Coordinator. Pathways 2 and
9 require you to complete a self-assessment process before registering. This is also a useful tool if you are unsure about the Recognition of Prior Learning process. The Self Assessment and other relevant information is available on our website Can I attend an individual workshop and not complete the whole Certificate? Yes you can choose to attend only the workshops that interest you. Apply for these workshops through our normal Calendar registration process. Go to and use the online registration function. How do I apply? To apply for this qualification please complete the following application form. You will then be contacted by CCWT staff to discuss your application, and a Learning Schedule will be sent to you which will outline when your workshops are on and due dates for assessment. You do not need to send any money with your application. You will be invoiced for your first payment once your Learning Schedule has been developed. If you need further information please call CCWT on (02) and ask to speak to Linda Watson. Or linda@acwa.asn.au
