1 Job Title: Job Grade: Directorate: Job Reference Number: Senior CAMHS Educational Psychologist (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) Soulbury Salary Range (B) Points 1 4 plus up to 3 SPA Schools, Children & Families P00822 The Role To provide services as an Educational Psychologist through the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. To support the development and implementation of mental health services across the Schools, Children and Families Directorate. Job Purpose To undertake EP strategic development work in relation to the LA priorities for mental health. To undertake complex case work. To provide professional supervision to support and develop the quality of professional practice in a designated area of the county. To deliver other psychological services as appropriate. Key Accountabilities To work as a member of a Tier 3 CAMHS Team. To support and implement interventions as appropriate. To contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of mental health initiatives relating to the development of provision for children and adolescents. This may involve a wide range of duties including case work with individuals.
2 To liaise closely with other professionals working in CAMHS. This may include attending meetings; multi-agency assessments and intervention work. To keep teams up to date with educational policy and practice. To support colleagues in relation to case work and information with respect to CAMHS issues. To provide support to schools and settings as part of the critical response team at the time of a trauma or critical incident. To ensure that the parents of pupils who are being worked with are supported to understand and participate in the processes of assessing and reviewing their child s mental health or emotional needs and how these are being met. To keep up to date with new initiatives and research relating to child and adolescent mental health provision and multi-agency liaison. To engage in development work in schools and other settings to deliver measurable improved outcomes in relation to vulnerable children including children and young people who are vulnerable due to SEN or disability, their own or a parent / carer s mental health difficulties, because they are looked after, because they have behavioural, emotional, social or emotional difficulties (BESD), are out of school, are engaged in offending behaviour or are vulnerable because of their gender, race or ethnicity or socio-economic factors. To support the development of the specialist provision across the county for pupils with social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties (SEBD). To undertake specific complex casework at the request of the County Senior CAMHS EP Team Leader or an Area Senior Educational Psychologist. To contribute to training and development work in schools and other settings in relation to promoting positive mental health and well-being. To contribute to policy and provision development within the Local Authority. To undertake regular professional supervision and training to enable the post holder to deliver supervision. To provide supervision to an area team of Educational Psychologists, Trainee EPs and Assistant EPs in line with the Essex EP Supervision Framework.
3 To contribute to the induction and Continuing Professional Development of Educational Psychologists, Trainee EPs and Assistant EPs as required. To provide support to Trainee EPs undertaking doctoral research as required. To provide specific services County-wide according to specific areas of expertise or responsibility. To provide education psychology services in line with service policy. To work within the British Psychological Society (BPS) Professional Practice Guidelines. To participate in professional appraisal review and programme review with Area Senior Educational Psychologist CFCS/Principal Educational Psychologist, as required. Ensure compliance to the Essex SET child protection procedures, to ensure the County Council s functions are discharged having regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. Promote, secure and ensure the active participation of children, young people and their families in the development, monitoring and review of services to ensure that there is continuous improvement in service delivery and that services delivered are responsive to client needs. Drive forward the cultural, workforce, and other changes necessary to ensure services cohere around children and young people s needs and secure improved outcomes. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including equality and antidiscrimination legislation and ensure arrangements are in place for the effective management of concerns and complaints. Ensure the development and motivation supervision and performance management of all direct reports to achieve high quality delivery of quality services. Represent the council effectively both internally and externally.
4 Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required of you commensurate with your grade. As part of this role you will have access to sensitive and / or personal information relating to vulnerable children. You will be required to ensure the security of the information particularly when using the Contact Point database. Knowledge, Skills and Experience British Psychological Society (BPS) recognised degree in psychology. A Doctorate or Masters degree in Educational Psychology, and eligibility for chartered status within the British Psychological Society. Recent, relevant in-service professional development. Minimum of two year s experience as an educational psychologist working in a local authority context Experience of developing and implementing planning and performance frameworks in a multi-disciplinary and partnership environment. Detailed understanding and awareness of the Government s Every Child Matters agenda. Experience of working with children and young people with SEN/Disability, and detailed knowledge of research informed interventions and approaches that prevent and meet SEN. Experience of supporting the work of educational psychologists Successful project and research experience. Demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of the factors that lead to improvement in achievement levels for individuals with SEN; of best practice in educational psychology; and of how the application of psychology supports learning. Personal CPD log reflects an interest in mental health issues. Engages in continuous development activities, thus responding to constant changes and developments in applied educational psychology.
