From the President Hello All, This will be the last President s letter for 2013. This year is quickly coming to an end and the holiday season has kicked into high gear! We had our Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 5th at Villa Christina and we all enjoyed a lovely buffet followed by delicious desserts. This year we partnered with Stand Up for Kids in Atlanta, GA. Kelly Fields, the Executive Director of Stand Up For Kids, spoke to us and shared with us how the contributions can help at risk kids and/or homeless kids in Atlanta, GA. I am sure it is hard for us to imagine so many homeless and at risk children. What a wonderful organization to have available for these children. Thank you all for your donations to help this charity. Recently, we have been hearing a lot about paying it forward. This is an awesome concept. I personally witnessed a couple of very generous acts of paying it forward at our luncheon. Several of our door prize winners, who won bank cards to Target or Walmart, donated their prize to Stand Up For Kids on the day of our luncheon. Such generosity warms the heart. Ms. Fields was quite touched. Our next luncheon meeting will be January 7th. This is a Tuesday instead of our usual first Thursday of the month (rescheduled due to the holidays). Our guest speaker will be Douglas Burrell of Drew Eckle Farnham who will be speaking about distracted driving. We also have some exciting events coming in February please watch for upcoming details on our Annual Workers Comp Seminar, I-Day, and Insurance Day at the Capital. We have launched a new internet page. Please check it out. Soon all members will be sent a temporary password and user name to set up and monitor their own Atlanta Claims Association portfolio. This will be within the next 90 days. The ACA website is a work in progress and shaping up very nicely! Please have a wonderful Holiday. Will see you all in January. Industry veterans will present a step-by-step approach to slash MSA costs. Workers compensation defense attorneys on the front lines in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina will discuss legal hot topics, rules changes and trends affecting workers comp. The Chairman of the Georgia State Board of Workers Compensation will update attendees on the state of the Board and proposed legislative changes. Medical experts will discuss the best practices for getting injured workers back to work. Attendees will also see a live demonstration of the latest apps and technology reshaping the industry and learn how to use social media to combat fraud. In Loving Memory of Scott Martin Scott Allen Martin, 58, of Decatur, Georgia, was webmaster of Atlanta Claims Association for 10 years. Scott passed away on Wednesday, October 23rd, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by family and close friends. Scott was born on March 12, 1955, in Elkhart, Indiana. He graduated from Elkins High School, in Elkins, West Virginia, and attended Huntington College in Indiana and DePaul University in Chicago, where he studied Computer Science. Scott is survived by his parents, Joe and Shirlee Martin of Goshen, Indiana; his daughter, Elizabeth Thompson (Stuart) of Nashville, Tennessee; his son, Reid Martin of Atlanta, Georgia; and two grandsons, Jacob Grady and Jack Thompson. A private family graveside service was held at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Elkhart, Indiana, where Scott was laid to rest beside his sister, Starlee Tomchik. 92 nd Annual Atlanta Claims Convention Our Annual Convention will be held April 23-24, 2014 at the Gwinnett Center. The convention committee made a decision to have a two day convention rather than a three day to hopefully generate more interest in the convention activities. Wednesday, April 23, we will have our Officers and Board of Directors and Award Luncheon and installation of officers with the passing of the gavel to our incoming President. Exhibitors will also set up in the afternoon of April 23, 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM followed by an Exhibitors Reception from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM. Thursday, April 24 the exhibitors hours will be from 10:00 AM until 6:30 PM. Various activities are being planned for the Exhibit Hall during the convention hours. Door prizes will also be awarded courtesy of Atlanta Claims Association and all adjusters will be eligible for those door prizes. We are also pleased to announce that we have several exhibitors registered to date. Hospitality suites will open from 6:00 PM to closing and these hours will give everyone an opportunity to attend the suites. The convention ends Thursday evening. We are not having a banquet in 2014 as the attendance in the past two years does not warrant having a banquet. The stage will be in the exhibit hall. To increase attendance the ACA will also be awarding cash prizes to claims representatives only.
