Target Audience This exam prep review course will benefit any nurse working in the emergency room or the nurse who is new to emergency care. CEN certification is the certification specific to emergency nursing and measures the attainment of a defined body of nursing knowledge pertinent to that particular specialty. This course is intended to prepare the nurse to take the Certified Emergency Nurse Exam. Course Description This course is a review of emergency nursing designed to assist the participant in successfully obtaining CEN certification. The course offers lectures, graphics, videos and practice questions in many of the areas that are tested on the CEN Exam. This review will provide not only a knowledge base for successfully completing the exam, but also a foundation for further study as the participant works towards emergency nursing certification. Why Be Certified Successfully completing the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) Exam is a challenge that has been completed by only a minority of emergency nurses. Successful completion of this exam exhibits to others that the bearer has demonstrated a knowledge base in the specialty of emergency nursing that exceeds his or her peers. Gooch, MSN, RN, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, ENP-BC, CFRN, CEN, NREMT-P Michael brings over 16 years of nursing and EMS experience to MED-ED s seminars and also holds the role of Lead Nurse Planner in the development, implementation and organizational compliance of its educational offerings. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings that range from emergency nursing and primary care to a Level I Trauma Center and includes ground and air medical transport. Michael received his MSN from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he focused on emergency and trauma care as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and also completed his Post-Master s Family Nurse Practitioner. He has presented on numerous topics across North America and serves as an instructor for many certification courses. Michael is employed as a Flight Nurse for Vanderbilt University Medical Center s LifeFlight and is an Emergency Nurse Practitioner with TeamHealth at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee. To Qualify for the Exam You must hold a current unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the United States or its Territories. A nursing certificate that is equivalent to a Registered Nurse in the United States is also acceptable. BCEN recommends 2 years experience in the emergency department; however, it is not required.
