Position Summary Position Title: Business unit: COMMUNICATIONS UNIT Division : GOVERNANCE Classification : LEVEL 3 to 4 Status : ONGOING Position Statement The is responsible for the planning and staging of quality civic events and citizenship ceremonies and providing support for community events. The position is also responsible for the co-ordination of council s advertising, assisting with the production of the internal newsletter and working as part of a team communications activities that enhance council s reputation. Essential Minimum Requirements The following essential requirements will be used in the assessment of the applicant in order to determine the most suitable candidate. Qualifications Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in communications (journalism or public relations), marketing or event management. Skills, Knowledge & Experience Extensive knowledge and experience in event planning and management. Experience in budgeting. Experience in preparing and maintaining databases. Demonstrated experience in preparing and implementing communications plans. Ability to write media releases, speeches, articles for internal and external publications, fact sheets and flyers. Experience with engaging and dealing with contractors and suppliers. Experience with publications and advertising production techniques and web based communications. Ability to work effectively under pressure, determine priorities and organise work loads to meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal skills. An ability to work with a team A can do customer focussed attitude. Proven ability to establish effective and co-operative internal and external relationships. Educational Qualifications An appropriate qualification in communications.

Skills, Attributes, Knowledge & Experience Two to four years experience working in a public relations or event management role. Experience with working with people from different cultures. Continue to learn and improve. Embrace sustainability. 2. Operational Manage the planning, staging, marketing and budgeting of community civic and special events. These include, but are not limited to, Australia Day, Anzac Day, Ride to Work, Unsung Heroes Awards, and Elected Members and Chief Executive Officer functions. Provide support and advice to other business units and event organisers to ensure a consistent and co-ordinated approach to other council events. These include, but are not limited to, Marion Celebrates, Learning Festival, Harmony Day, Parks Alive and Business Innovation Forum. Manage the planning, staging, marketing and budgeting of council s citizenship ceremonies. Develop and maintain a database, in consultation with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, of those eligible for citizenship in the Marion Council area. Manage a Calendar of Events for the City of Marion, including a community events calendar on the council s website, and the Corporate Calender on the intranet. Co-ordinate, and where necessary, prepare advertising copy for council initiatives in consultation with the relevant work areas. Work within a team to produce the internal staff newsletter, including co-ordinating

story content, writing stories and liaising with photographers and designers. Provide communications support and advice to other business areas in consultation with the Unit Manager Communications. Provide support and assistance to other members of the communications team. Develop and maintain a corporate photographic library. 3. Service Quality 4. Business Excellence 5. Contribute to the maintenance of an accurate record of customers and key stakeholders of all services within work area. Contribute to and implement improvements to workplace methods, practices, quality and productivity. Contribute to improve the overall operational efficiency of the organisation through the use of Business Excellence tools to increase quality of service and where possible reduce operational costs. Report all spills, incidents and environmental damage in accordance with Council procedures. Participate in activities associated with the implementation of workplace environment policies, procedures and management systems. Take reasonable care of own health and safety at work. Avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of any other person through any act or omission at work. Ensure you are not affected by the consumption of alcohol or a drug, in such a state as to endanger own safety at work or they safety of any other person. Use any equipment provided for health and safety purposes. Not wilfully interfere with or misuse items or facilities provided in the interest of health, safety and welfare of employees. Report all accidents, incidents, injuries, property damage in accordance with Council procedures. Comply with the use of and utilisation of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Participate in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety, policies, procedures and management systems.
