INTRODUCTORY TRAINING COURSE for Safety and Health Representatives OVERVIEW: This course aims to give safety and health representatives the basic knowledge and skills to perform their roles and functions under the legislation with the ultimate aim of improving safety and health in Western Australia. Trainwest is committed to reducing the number of injuries, illnesses and diseases in Western Australian workplaces. The need for this training is clear and Trainwest can equip candidates with skills and knowledge to assist in reaching this goal. However candidate s performance will be assessed on the knowledge and skills to perform their roles and functions under the legislation. The merits of competency based training are recognised. Candidates will participate in a variety of tasks during the course including written tasks, case studies, demonstration and scenarios. CERTIFICATION: There is no nationally recognised award issued for this course. However, after completion of the Introductory Training Course for Safety and Health with Trainwest, candidates have the option to have their training recognised as part of the BSB30712 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety. The units mapped to this course are below: BSBWHS302A Apply knowledge of WHS legislation in the workplace BSBWHS304A Participate effectively in WHS communication and consultation processes BSBWHS305A Contribute to WHS issue resolution BSBWHS303A Participate in WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control BSBWHS406A Assist with responding to incidents To receive a nationally recognised award the candidate must submit their activity book to Trainwest for assessment. BSB41412- CERTIFICATE IV in Work Health and Safety OVERVIEW: This qualification is suitable for people working in a work health and safety (WHS) role that may or may not work under supervision. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibilities for the output of others. This qualification reflects the role of workers who apply a broad knowledge base and well developed skills in a wide variety of contexts and may include coordinators, advisors and facilitators. This course is completed over 5 (five) working days of face to face training. There are small workplace assessments to be completed post course. The post course assignment involved the gathering of evidence relevant to all aspects of health and safety in a workplace environment. CERTIFICATION: Upon completion students will receive the Diploma of Work Health and Safety BSB51312. Upon completion of individual units of competency participants will receive a Statement of Attainment which is a progression toward the Diploma of Work Health and Safety BSB51312. This is a nationally recognised qualification.
