Bush Heritage has more than 36 nature reserves throughout Australia which total almost 1 million hectares. In addition Bush Heritage partners with Indigenous and agricultural land owners to assist with the conservation management of a further 2.5 million hectares. Established in 1991, Bush Heritage has more than 17,000 supporters Australia wide and an annual operating budget of over $13 million. The organisation has six teams West Region, North Region, South East Region, Conservation, Marketing and Fundraising, and Corporate Services. Position Summary The Direct and Digital Marketing Team Leader is responsible for increasing Bush Heritage s supporter base and financial resources. Its specific focus is to develop and implement direct and digital marketing programs to acquire new donors and increase income from existing supporters. Key channels include face to face sales, email, social media and website, direct mail and telemarketing. To be successful the Direct and Digital Marketing Team Leader will build strong working relationships with a range of Bush Heritage staff and external suppliers. This role directly supervises the Direct and Digital Marketing Officer. Accountability The Direct and Digital Marketing Team Leader reports to the Marketing Manager. The Direct and Digital Marketing Officer, contractors and volunteers report to the position. Key Responsibilities and Duties The Direct and Digital Marketing Team Leader contributes to the purchase and protection of conservation land by: 1. Effective leadership and management of direct staff reports, external suppliers and internal relationships across Bush Heritage. 2. Developing and implementing a strategy for acquiring new donors for Bush Heritage, including new Friends of the Bush regular donors. 3. Developing and implementing a strategy for donor retention and development, including maximising upsell and cross-sell opportunities. 4. Managing existing acquisition and development programs within agreed objectives, deadlines and budgets and across a range of channels including: face to face, email, online, telemarketing, and direct mail, as well as monitoring, analysing and reporting on programs to improve performance. 5. Creating a range of fundraising propositions to support the above strategies and management objectives. 6. Creating and managing annual budgets and plans for direct and digital marketing activities. 7. Managing contracts with key suppliers including for the following services: face to face sales, data capture and management, creative, print, mail fulfilment and telemarketing sales. 8. Ensuring that the Bush Heritage brand, key messages and Privacy Policy are applied to all direct and digital marketing activities. 9. Key Outcomes 1. New donors, including new Friends of the Bush regular donors, are acquired to meet Bush Heritage s annual growth and income targets. 2. Lifetime value of existing donors is increased to maximise retention and meet Bush Heritage s annual income targets. 3. Bush Heritage s Friends of the Bush regular giving program is managed efficiently and meets annual income and donor retention targets. 4. The lifetime value of all donors demonstrates continuous improvement as a result of direct and digital marketing activities that build long-term relationships between donors and Bush Heritage. 5. Bush Heritage s community engagement goals are supported through direct and digital marketing channels. Qualifications, Skills and Selection Criteria Essential Commitment and passion for nature conservation and the objectives and values of Bush Heritage. Demonstrated staff management experience. Demonstrated senior-level experience of direct marketing for fundraising or consumer sales, in one or more of the following: direct mail, telemarketing, face-to-face, email and/or other digital channels. Demonstrated ability to manage projects to deliver specified outcomes within agreed deadlines and budgets, and demonstrated ability to monitor and analyse programs to improve performance. Demonstrated experience in managing outsourced suppliers for optimum results, e.g. for face to face sales, creative and production, data capture and management, printers and mailing houses, and telemarketing sales. Demonstrated ability to deliver key customer or donor relationship building strategies. Demonstrated ability to create a successful fundraising proposition and manage the implementation of this through direct and digital marketing channels. Demonstrated emotional competence with good interpersonal and influencing skills, and demonstrated success in working effectively with a diverse range of people (staff, volunteers and supporters) and bringing the best out of them. Demonstrated ability to communicate to a superior level in both a written and oral form. Strong numerical and analytical skills (including a high level of expertise in manipulating, interrogating and presenting data using relational databases and MS Excel). Desirable Qualification in marketing or fundraising. Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment and risk assessment procedures and requirements. Experience in the not for profit sector. Page 3 of 5
Direction and Guidance Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Direct and Digital Marketing Team Leader is primarily responsible for fulfilling the various responsibilities associated with this position. As a self-starter, it is expected that the incumbent will contribute towards improving the effectiveness of systems being managed including the development of new systems where required. CEO and the Board Gerard O Neill was appointed the Chief Executive of Bush Heritage in 2011. The Board Chair is Louise Sylvan (Chief Executive Officer, Australian National Preventive Health Agency) and directors include leading Australians from business and commerce, government, non-government and private sectors, conservation and science. Bush Heritage demonstrates a strong commitment to Indigenous people and has Indigenous representation on the Board.
