10 ROOFS ROOFS 11 LOW SLOPE ROOFS SINGLE-PLY SYSTEM RESISTO offers a much more resistant and durable alternative than shingles or other conventional roofing materials for low-slope roofs. An HR CAP SHEET is used in a single-ply system* (with a LASTOBOND PRO reinforcement membrane on the edges of the roof and construction details) provides reliable, long-lasting waterproofing protection. The RESISTO HR CAP SHEET is a premium quality roof covering that will withstand the extreme conditions low slope roofs typically endure. * Slopes >1:12 or 8% ** Slopes >_ 1/8:12 or 1% TWO-PLY SYSTEM RESISTO BASIC WATERPROOFING (1 st ply) and HR CAP SHEET (2 nd ply) are the ideal waterproofing solution for low slope roofs. They are especially effective on very low slope roofs** where shingles and other conventional coverings are much less long-lasting and not very attractive, such as on house additions, cottages, garages, annexes, carports, sheds, workshops, and other buildings. REQUIRED TOOLS REQUIRED PRODUCTS OR OPTIONAL PRODUCTS HR CAP SHEET HIGH RESISTANCE SELF-ADHESIVE ELASTOMERIC L LS CHOICE PROFESSIONAL S PROFESSIONAL CHOICE THE The HR CAP SHEET is a 150-mil-thick (3.8 mm) self-adhesive membrane composed of elastomeric bitumen reinforced with a high resistance (HR) composite. The exposed top surface of the membrane is protected by coloured granules (grey, black, brown or green). The self-adhesive bottom surface is covered with an easy-to-remove, silicone-treated, release sheet (split-back). The HR CAP SHEET is used in single-ply and two-ply waterproofing systems on low slope roofs. APPLICATION TEMPERATURE Minimum application temperature 50 F (10 C) See pages 26-27 for information on these products.

12 ROOFS ROOFS 13 (LOW SLOPE ROOFS) SINGLE-PLY SYSTEM APPLICATION CONDITIONS The minimum application temperature of the membranes is 50 F (10 C). They must be installed on a clean, dry surface. It is important that products be brought to ambient temperature before use. SUBSTRATE* The substrate must be sound and in good condition. Make sure that there are no protruding nails or screws. Plywood OSB panels (rough side up) Asphaltic panels (RESISTOBOARD) * Tongue and groove boards must be covered with one of the three materials listed above. On new tongue and groove boards, cover only with plywood or OSB panels. The slope of the roof must be at least 1:12 or 8%. The maximum slope for nail-free installation is 4:12 or 30%. IMPORTANT : For slopes over 4:12 (30%), the top edge of the membrane must be mechanically fastened using 1 in (2.5 cm) steel-washered roofing nails every 12 in (30 cm) c/c. APPLYING RESISTO PRIMER Mix the primer thoroughly before applying. Use a brush or roller to apply a coat of RESISTO PRIMER to a clean, dry surface. NOTE: H 2 O PRIMER is not compatible with RESISTOBOARD asphaltic panels. Drying time ½ hour to 3 hours, depending on application conditions. The drying time can vary depending on the ambient temperature and the thickness applied, as well as the type of substrate. Coverage EXTERIOR PRIMER: 1 L covers 32 to 55 ft 2 (3 to 5 m 2 ) H 2 O PRIMER : 1 L covers 32 to 96 ft 2 (3 to 9 m 2 ) Coverage may vary depending on the permeability of the substrate. The primer is dry when sticky but not messy when touched. NOTE: Primed surfaces may be slippery until the primer dries. Be careful when walking on the roof. INSTALLING THE LASTOBOND PRO HT- N or HT-S PERIMETER The LASTOBOND PRO membrane must be installed as a reinforcement at the perimeter of the roof and other areas at risk of water leakage such as ridges, valleys, parapets, and upstands of the roof before the HR CAP SHEET is installed. Position the membrane parallel to the edge of the roof, leaving a 3 in (8 cm) overhang on the edge where the gutter will be installed. Fig. ➐ If the gutter is already installed, apply the membrane beginning at the edge of the roof. Install the membrane two rolls wide at the bottom of the slope (near the gutter) and one roll wide around the remaining roof edge and the construction details. Fig. ➐ Unroll and position the membrane. Peel back the release sheet on the bottom surface by 12 to 16 in (30 to 40 cm) and fold back to one side. Adhere the uncovered part to the substrate. Fig. ➊ Holding the other end of the membrane, gradually peel back the release sheet and, using a push broom (or other accessory); press the membrane onto the substrate while continuing to slowly peel back the release sheet. Adhere the membrane in the centre first, and then press outward to the edges. Fig. ➋ Apply pressure on the membrane using a metal or hard rubber roller to ensure it adheres completely to the base, taking care to avoid the formation of blisters, wrinkles, and fishmouths. Overlap the sides by 3 in (8 cm). Overlap the ends by 6 in (15 cm). ➌ ➍ ➎ ➏ SEALER ADHERED part ➊ Silicone-treated release sheet EDGE FLASHING Once the membrane is installed, attach the metal edge flashing. Overlap the flashing and the membrane installed along the edge of the roof with a 4 in (10 cm) strip of RED ZONE or LASTOBOND PRO membrane. PROTECTING CONSTRUCTION DETAILS Use LASTOBOND PRO HT-N and/or RED ZONE membrane. See the illustrations on page 9 of this guide. INSTALLING THE HR CAP SHEET The HR CAP SHEET should be installed horizontally, beginning at the bottom of the slope. Install the membrane directly on the surface to be covered, beginning at the lower edge of the roof. Unroll and position the membrane. Fig. ➌ Fold the membrane back on itself over half its width, i.e., 20 in (50 cm), along the entire length of the pre-positioned membrane. Fig. ➍ Kneel on the unfolded section to make sure it does not shift during this operation. Peel back the release sheet from the folded section, letting the membrane fall back on the substrate. The self-adhesive surface will come into contact with the substrate. Fig. ➍ Then, fold back the other half of the HR CAP SHEET and repeat the preceding steps. Immediately press down on the membrane with a metal or hard rubber roller. Fig. ➎ Make sure the membrane adheres completely to the substrate to avoid the formation of blisters, wrinkles, and fishmouths. For steep slope roofs, the HR CAP SHEET should preferably be installed vertically, by positioning the first strip along one vertical edge of the roof. Unroll and position the membrane vertically, parallel to the slope of the roof. The RESISTO single-ply roofing system is guaranteed for 15 years against any manufacturing defects that could cause leaks. This warranty applies to all low slope residential roofs that drain to the outside edge and that do not have roof drains. The slope of the roof must be at least 1:12 or 8%. For details on warranty terms and conditions, consult the warranty form available at home renovation centres. ➋ STRETCHING Silicone-treated release sheet STRETCHING NOTE Use the selvage (approx. 4 in (10 cm)) to ensure a good overlap of the membrane strips. RESISTO ANTICORROSION SEALANT can be applied to new, galvanized, or pre-painted steel surfaces. We recommend removing grease and oil, if any, using a solvent prior to applying the sealant. APPLYING RESISTO ANTICORROSION SEALANT Coverage: 1 litre covers 20 to 40 ft 2 (2 to 4 m 2 ). Coverage can vary depending on the protection desired and the condition of the surface. NOTE It is important to mix the sealant thoroughly, using a mixer tip, before use, and occasionally during use. Apply with a brush, long nap roller, or sprayer. The surface must be clean and dry. Let dry. Recommendations for using a sprayer We recommend using an Airless-type sprayer with a minimum pressure of 3,000 lb. Use a 50-foot-long (15 m), ¼-in-diameter hose. Use a 5:21 nozzle. The sealant can be diluted, as needed, with regular paint thinner such as xylene or Varsol. Do not dilute more than 1:10. NOTE (for sprayers only) : For a more aesthetic finish, the second coat must be thin. Dilute the sealant 1:4 with solvent. IMPORTANT : Clean the sprayer with regular paint thinner when finished. If a second coat is required, only apply once the first coat is completely dry (approx. 24 hours). RESISTO ANTICORROSION SEALANT can be applied to pre-painted surfaces. However, once it has been applied, it cannot be painted.

22 ROOFS ROOFS 23 INSTALLING RESISTOBOARD PANELS When installing RESISTOBOARD panels, stagger the vertical joints. The panels must be mechanically fastened using 1 in (2.5 cm) steel-washered roofing nails every 16 in (40 cm) as shown in the diagram below. 4 OTHER ROOFING PRODUCTS RESISTOBOARD RESISTOBOARD protection panels are the best solution for replacing damaged roof surfaces to provide a uniform substrate prior to installing a waterproofing membrane. RESISTOBOARD SEMI-RIGID PROTECTION BOARD 5 REQUIRED TOOLS PROFESSIONAL S PROFESSIONALS CHOICE THE and large headed nails SEMI-RIGID RESISTOBOARD PROTECTION PANELS are composed of a mineral-fortified asphaltic core between two asphaltsaturated fibreglass felts. RESISTOBOARD is designed to be used as a substrate material on low-slope roofs. It can be installed on wood surfaces, rigid insulation, or as a recover sheet on an existing roof surface that is to be re-roofed. RESISTOBOARD is also used as a protection panel in foundation waterproofing systems. Compatible with most modifiedbitumen and built-up roofing systems Easy to handle and install Mould resistant Puncture resistant Hard wearing Can be cut easily with a roofing knife

24 ROOFS ROOFS 25 INSTALLATION METHOD RESISTOR PLUS is attached to the roof using 1-in-diameter (2.5 cm) washered roofing nails (plastic or metal) spaced every 6 in (15 cm) in the centre and 1 in (2.5 cm) along the edge, with a repeat every 48 in (120 cm). (See the nailing pattern) NOTE Pneumatic staple guns are not recommended INSTALLING RESISTOR PLUS The roof surface should be clean before installing the RESISTOR PLUS underlayment. The surface must be smooth, with all sharp edges and protrusions repaired or removed, i.e., nails and staples. A dry surface is preferable to ensure superior performance and safety. RESISTOR PLUS should be installed with the printed side up, parallel to the gutters, beginning at the lower edge of the slope. Side joints must be overlapped by at least 4 in (10 cm) and end joints must be overlapped by at least 6 in (15 cm). Install strips of RESISTOR PLUS vertically along valleys and gables for improved protection. All vertical surfaces must be protected by strips of RESISTOR PLUS overlapped by 12 in (30 cm). Excess material can be trimmed later. RESISTOR PLUS contains a UV stabilizer but is not designed for prolonged exposure to strong UV radiation. Shingles or metal roofing must be installed as soon as possible after the RESISTOR PLUS underlayment. RESISTOR PLUS, as shown above, has a line pattern on the top surface to facilitate alignment of the underlayment. 26 ROOFS ROOFS 27 SURFACE PREPARATION The surface must be dry. Remove any loose particles or other substances that might interfere with adherence. On metal surfaces, remove grease and oil, if any, prior to applying the product. SUBSTRATE SBS modified bitumen membrane Concrete of fibrocement panels Wood and plywood Metal APPLYING RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE Mix thoroughly before applying. Impregnate the surface to be prepared with adhesive using a brush or roller. Reinforce transitions and joints between two bases with RESISTOFLASH REINFORCEMENT membrane. Install immediately after the coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE. NOTES RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE is designed to resist UV radiation and can remain unprotected. Do not spread more than 10 ft (3 m) at a time. APPLICATION AND CURING TIMES Once the RESISTOFLASH REINFORCEMENT has been installed, immediately cover with a first coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE. Cover the first coat with a second coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE after 2 to 3 hours. This curing time corresponds to the polymerization of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE at an ambient temperature of 68 F (20 C). Favourable conditions such as hot, humid, or windy weather can significantly reduce the curing time. OPTIONAL FINISHES Coloured granules: Small coloured granules can be spread on the last coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE while it is still wet. Use approximately 1.2 kg/m ². Spread the granules from bottom to top using a plastic trowel. The granules can also be added later by first spreading a thin coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE (250 g/m ² ) on the surface. Anticorrosion sealant: A coat of ANTICORROSION SEALANT (approx. 200 to 250 g/m²) can be applied to the surface for an aluminum finish. 1 Using a brush, roller, or spatula, apply a 4-in-wide (10 cm) coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE both horizontally and vertically at the bottom of the transitions between the roof and the upstands. Do not spread more than 10 ft (3 m) at a time. 2 Immediately install the RESISTOFLASH REINFORCEMENT on the wet adhesive using a spatula or brush. The reinforcement strips must overlap by at least 2 in (5 cm). 3 First waterproofing layer Immediately cover the RESISTOFLASH REINFORCEMENT and entire upstand with a coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE. Let dry 2 to 3 hours. 4 MATCHING FINISH FOR ROOF FLASHING RESISTOFLASH is a single-component waterproofing resin composed of bitumen and polyurethane. RESISTOFLASH is ready to use and is applied directly on traditional bituminous waterproofing, without primer. It is ideal for waterproofing upstands on new and repaired roofs. REQUIRED PRODUCTS RESISTOFLASH REINFORCEMENT RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE GRANULES (if required) APPLICATION TEMPERATURE 41 F to 90 F (5 C to 35 C) RESISTOFLASH RESISTOFLASH REINFORCEMENT, RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE and, if required, GRANULES, are the perfect solution for repairing cracks, holes, and open joints on roofs. REPAIRING HOLES AND CRACKS Long-lasting repairs of holes, cracks, and open joints Completely waterproof Easy and quick to install UV resistant Second waterproofing layer When the first coat is dry, complete the waterproofing by applying a finishing coat of RESISTOFLASH ADHESIVE, overlapping the first coat by approximately 1 in (3 cm).
