Michael S.Cookson, MD, MMHC (Co-Course Director) THE OKLAHOMA PROSTATE CANCER is held through the University of Oklahoma and the Stephenson Cancer Center to provide new insights in the treatment of prostate cancer. This single-day program will consist of lectures and case discussions highlighting a multidisciplinary approach to prostate cancer care and integration of new technology in the evaluation and treatment of prostate cancer patients. Evidence based medicine highlighting relevant clinical trial data will be provided as well as focusing on current controversies in prostate cancer management. INTENDED/TARGET AUDIENCES Urologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Primary Care and Advanced Practice Providers (NP and PA s) LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this activity, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to: 1. Describe guidelines for prostate cancer screening and the difference in recommendations between the various national organizations. 2. Evaluate diagnostic biomarkers and their role in enhanced prostate cancer detection. 3. Identify the use and limitations of prostate MRI in the detection and monitoring of prostate cancer. 4. Identify the new genetic markers and their use in the detection and management of prostate cancer. 5. Describe the risks and benefits of the various treatment modalities for localized prostate cancer, and the impact on cancer control and quality of life. 6. Cookson, MD, MMHC, is the Donald D. Albers Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He is the Director of the Multidisciplinary Prostate and Urologic Oncology Program at the Stephenson Cancer Center. He has 20 years of experience in the management of patients with prostate cancer. His clinical interests include active surveillance, robotic radical prostatectomy and management of high-risk prostate cancer. He has published extensively on the prostate cancer management is the chairman the AUA Guidelines Panel on Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer. Kelly Stratton, MD (Co-Course Director) Assistant Professor Urologic Oncology Department of Urology OU College of Medicine Kelly Stratton, MD, is an assistant professor of Urologic Oncology in the OU Department of Urology. Prior to joining the OU team in 2014, he completed his fellowship training in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Stratton brings experience with state-of-the art imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. John Davis, MD, FACS Keynote Speaker Associate Professor Urology MD Anderson Cancer Center University of Texas John Davis, MD, FACS, holds Director titles of the Urosurgical Prostate Cancer Program and Urologic Oncology clinics. His clinical interests are in patients with urologic cancers, laparoscopic/ robotic surgery, and general urology.
