Citrix XenServer frm HP Getting Started Guide
Overview This guide utlines the basic setup, installatin, and cnfiguratin steps required t begin using yur Citrix XenServer frm HP. A first time wizard-based setup guides yu thrugh initial installatin and cnfiguratin, and a GUI prvides nging virtual machine mnitring and management. T prvide active hardware management using HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM), HP SIM Agents are installed with Citrix XenServer. These agents practively surface hardware mnitring data t prvide the mst up-t-date server state infrmatin pssible. The Citrix XenServer frm HP Getting Started Guide is fr Citrix XenServer; HP Select Editin, Citrix Essentials fr XenServer, HP Enterprise Editin; r Citrix Essentials fr XenServer, HP Platinum Editin. The accmpanying ISO installs Citrix XenServer. The ISO includes a license fr Citrix XenServer, HP Select Editin and a 90 day trial license fr PVC. Licenses fr XenServer, HP Select Editin; Essentials fr XenServer, HP Enterprise Editin; and Citrix Essentials fr XenServer, HP Platinum Editin are purchased separately. Citrix XenServer, HP Select Editin license ffers a lw cst, all-in-ne slutin with Citrix XenServer frm HP, HP PVC fr single server management, and XenCenter fr virtual machine management acrss multiple servers. HP PVC enables simplified creatin and management f the lcal virtualizatin envirnment and the virtual machines. Citrix XenServer enables the creatin f an unlimited number f virtual machines per server with up t 64-bit MB memry and eight virtual CPUs per VM. Essentials fr XenServer, HP Enterprise Editin license enables all f the features f XenServer and adds histrical perfrmance reprting, high availability, and wrk flw rchestratin. Essentials fr XenServer, HP Enterprise Editin includes HP PVC fr single server management and XenCenter fr virtual machine management acrss multiple servers. Essentials fr XenServer, HP Platinum Editin license includes everything available with Essentials fr XenServer, HP Enterprise Editin and adds Citrix prvisining server and Autmated Lab Management. Setting up and cnfiguring HP PrLiant servers t hst virtual machines 1. Dwnlad the installatin sftware frm Sftware Dept hme (http://sftware.hp.cm/ ), and then select Virtualizatin. 3. Burn the installatin ISO t a CD-ROM, r mve the ISO image t a lcatin accessible using the Virtual Media capabilities f ilo 2. NOTE: The CD-ROM is btable. Bt the server and chse t install the Citrix XenServer frm HP prduct either t the hard drive r t flash media (USB key r SD card). The flash media must be installed int the internal prt n yur PrLiant server. 4. Set up the server hardware, and if desired, cnnect yur server t the netwrk. If installing t flash media (USB r SD Card), yu must install the flash media int the internal prt n yur PrLiant server. Fr specific instructins n hw t access the internal flash media (USB r SD card) prt, see the server dcumentatin included with yur server. NOTE: The server must have access t either lcally attached disk strage r a supprted shared strage device. Fr advanced strage cnfiguratins, see the dcumentatin fr the remte strage devices and the strage chapter in the Citrix XenServer Reference Manual. Fr hardware infrmatin, see the server dcumentatin included with yur server. 5. Access the server cnsle in ne f the fllwing ways: Lcally Use yur lcal keybard and mnitr. Remtely Use ilo Integrated Remte Cnsle remtely frm a netwrk client using a web brwser. Remte setup requires HP ilo 2 Advanced Pack, which is sld separately fr HP PrLiant ML and DL servers. The remte graphics capability is included with BL servers. IMPORTANT: After yu bt up the server, yu must press the crrect functin key when prmpted t enter setup mde t cnfigure bt rder, cnfigure hardware virtualizatin, and cnfigure ilo and the Smart Array cntrller. Familiarize yurself with the fllwing steps and prmpts. Each prmpt is available fr nly a few secnds during the bt prcess.
If yu are installing t the hard drive, prceed t step 8. 6. T enable flash media (USB flash drive r SD card): a. Cnfigure yur flash device t bt befre the hard drive. By default, flash media is already cnfigured t bt befre the hard drive. b. Bt server, and then press F9 t enter ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU). c. Scrll dwn t Standard Bt Order (IPL), and then press Enter. d. T mdify the bt rder, highlight the device yu want t mve, and then press Enter. e. A menu appears t change the device bt rder. Ensure the flash media is set t bt befre the hard drive. 7. Enable CPU virtualizatin. a. If yu are nt in ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU), bt the server, and then press F9. b. Scrll dwn t Advanced Optins, and then press Enter. c. Scrll dwn t Prcessr Optins, and then press Enter. d. Scrll dwn t the servers supprted prcessr (either Intel Virtualizatin Technlgy r AMD Virtualizatin), and then press Enter. e. At the next screen highlight Enable, and then press Enter. f. Save cnfiguratin changes, and then exit. The server rebts. 8. T cnfigure ilo netwrk parameters, directry settings, glbal settings, and user accunts, when prmpted at POST, press F8. Fr mre infrmatin, see the Cnfiguring Arrays n HP Smart Array Cntrllers Reference Guide. Installing Citrix XenServer frm HP T install the sftware image lcally: 1. Place the Install CD int the CD-ROM drive, and then bt the server. 2. Chse t install the Citrix XenServer frm HP prduct either t the hard drive r t flash media (USB key r SD card). T install the sftware image remtely using ilo 2: 1. Verify that the server has the apprpriate ilo license t use Virtual Media, pen a web brwser n yur lcal machine, and then lg in t ilo. HP c-class servers include a license fr Virtual Media. Fr ther servers, an HP ilo 2 Advanced Pack license is required and is sld separately. 2. Select the Virtual Media tab, and then select the Virtual Media Applet.
3. Chse frm ne f the fllwing ptins: Lcal Media Drive i. Under the Virtual CD/DVD-Rm sectin, select Lcal Media Drive. ii. Frm the menu, select the drive letter f the desired physical CD/DVD- ROM drive n yur client cmputer. iii. Click Cnnect. The cnnected drive icn turns green. Lcal Image File i. Under the Virtual CD/DVD-ROM sectin, select Lcal Image File. ii. Enter the path r file name f the image (ISO file) in the text bx r click Brwse t lcate the image file. iii. Click Cnnect. The cnnected drive icn turns green. 4. Fllw the prmpts generated by the Install CD t cmplete the installatin. 5. If perfrming a restratin r recvery, when installatin is cmplete, restre frm backup files. Cnfiguring the HP PrLiant Virtual Cnsle When yu initially bt up yur machine, the HP PVC setup wizard appears and guides yu thrugh initial cnfiguratin. The wizard nly appears during the initial cnfiguratin. 1. Select the language, and then click OK. The Welcme screen appears. 2. Click Frward. 3. Accept the End User License Agreement. Click Frward. The Enter a rt passwrd page appears. 4. Enter a passwrd fr yur rt accunt. Cnfirm the passwrd. 5. Click Frward. The Set Screen Reslutin page appears. 6. Select a screen reslutin. 7. Click Frward. The Set the date/time page appears. 8. Set the date, time, and time zne, and then specify the NTP server. 9. Click Frward. The Server Hstname/Server Management Interface page appears. 10. Enter the hstname, and then cnfigure the server management interface. 11. Click Frward. The HP Insight Management Agents/HP System Management Hmepage page appears. 12. Chse the manageability ptins. T manage the server using HP SIM, yu must enable the HP SIM Agents. 13. (Optinal) If yu have nt set up any strage repsitries, the Setup Strage Repsitry page appears. 14. T exit the wizard, click Finish. The PVC appears.
Enabling entitlements T btain and install the sftware and licenses fr Essentials fr XenServer, HP Platinum Editin, and HP Enterprise Editin fllw the instructins n yur license entitlement certificate. Recvering frm a system failure If yu encunter a system failure and need t reinstall, see Installing Citrix XenServer frm HP. IMPORTANT: Using the Install CD cmpletely erases all existing data and user cnfiguratins. All precnfigured settings and user data are lst. IMPORTANT: If yu are perfrming a system recvery and yur previus installatin included a Citrix Enterprise license r an HP PVC license, yu must reapply the licenses t enable the same level f services yu had with the previus installatin. If yu n lnger have the Citrix Enterprise license r the HP PVC license, yu must btain a replacement cpy thrugh the HP website (http://www.webware.hp.cm,) r by cntacting the HP License Center using the cntact infrmatin lcated n the Entitlement Certificate.
