The AGM is a useful forum that allows members participate in discussions and use their votes on important club matters. Maintain Your Greens Ball marks - also called pitch marks - are the bane of smooth-putting and healthy greens on golf courses all over the world. They're the little depressions, or craters, sometimes made when a golf ball descends from the sky and impacts the putting surface. Repairing those little depressions is very important. Equally important is doing it the right way. A ball mark can cause the grass in the depression to die, leaving not just a scar but also a pit in the putting surface that can knock well-struck putts offline. Repairing a ball mark restores a smooth surface and helps keep the grass healthy. But "repairing" a ball mark incorrectly can actually cause more damage than not attempting to repair it at all. Research has found that incorrectly "repaired" ball marks take up to twice as long to heal as those that are properly repaired. So golfers, lets all start fixing our ball marks, and doing it the right way. And if you have a moment - if there isn't another group of golfers behind you waiting for you to clear the green - fix one or two other ball marks, too, if you find more of them on the green. All you have to do is create a box around the hole and start putting from five to ten feet away. The goal is to get the ball into the box, while the hole counts as an extra point. Continue this drill with increasing distances. Notes from the Men s Committee: The 2014 Purcell and Bruen teams will be managed by Fergal Coleman and Ivor O'Callaghan respectively with George Treacy as the overall manager of men's teams. The men's club is planning a few foursomes competitions over the winter months and these will provide an ideal opportunity for potential team members to try out pairings and get used to a partner prior to the commencement of the South East League in February. As the Pierce Purcell first round is to be held in Youghal in May, we anticipate great interest and support for our teams in 2014. Also, the number of players from the 2013 Purcell team who have now moved into Bruen handicap territory is greatly increasing the competition for Bruen places. Please let the team managers know early if you are interested in playing and if you have a preferred partner. Rating on GolfWRX 4.5 Stars Course Protection Responsibility: It is a rule of Youghal Golf Club, that a maximum of two golf balls may be used by any player at any time while practicing. This is to reduce extreme wear to tees, fairways and greens and is in the interest of all members. The Management Committee encourages each member to enforce these policies. It is your club and we must all take an active part in maintaining its condition. Winter Months & Bad Weather - Management will endeavour to keep 18 holes open at all times during the winter months. The New Course may be out of play at times, but contingent upon ground and weather conditions may be introduced at weekends. There may be occasions during the season where use of buggies may be suspended due to course conditions and will only be done after careful consideration of ground conditions and a health and safety assessment. We thank you for your understanding as we protect the course for the coming season as much as possible. It is imperative that all members and guests repair Pitch Marks & Divots immediately..
