Primary Purpose/Objective of the Position Support and assist the Centre s Nominated Supervisor in the organisation and co-ordination of all areas of the kindergarten to ensure the smooth operation of the service in compliance with all directions set by Council and the Department of Education and Communities. Provision of quality care and education for children in the age range of birth to six years. 5. Key Operational Tasks and responsibilities 1. Provide quality care and education for children. Provide a happy, safe, caring environment for the children, which is conducive to learning and creativity. Formally and informally observe children to assess development, which will be the basis of learning programs. Program and implement daily activities and group situations to stimulate the children in all aspects of their development. Provide a flexible program that allows for differences in children s abilities, developmental levels and needs. Encourage each child to become secure and independent in an environment other than his/her home. Integrate children with special needs into the pre school program and routine, working in liaison with the child s parents, the special needs teacher and support personnel from external services. Assist Child Care Centre Nominated Supervisor in arranging and carrying out excursions and entertainment to compliment the pre-school program. Research material that is appropriate for self-improvement and the development of the program. Attend relevant in-service courses to extend knowledge in all areas of early childhood education. Contribute to the National Quality Framework. Ability to work within the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011. Ability to consider and act upon the needs of the organization (Kogarah City Council and in particular Children s Services) when required in order to meet community needs. 2. Communicate and Liaise with individual parents. Establish positive relationships with parents so that they feel comfortable discussing all aspects of the education of their children. Discuss formally and informally with parents any aspects of the education and progress of their children and consult with the Nominated Supervisor before referring to other people or agencies as required. Help parents understand the purpose and operation of the program through formal and informal means, i.e. contribution to newsletters, posters etc. 3. Write reports and attendance at meetings. Maintain developmental records of focus children and ensure confidentiality. Write reports and complete forms as required by the Nominated Supervisor. Attend and contribute at meetings as required. Work with the Nominated Supervisor to develop policies that relate to the safe and efficient running of the Child Care Centre. 4. Perform role of the Nominated Supervisor as necessary. In the absence of the Nominated Supervisor, for a period of 1 or more days, act in the role in consultation with the Manager-Children s Services as required. When necessary share the workload of the Centre by undertaking any designated duties normally carried out by the Child Care Centre s Nominated Supervisor. 6. Selection Criteria ESSENTIAL Associate Diploma in Child Studies or certified equivalent. Demonstrated knowledge of the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011. Experience working in Early Childhood settings. Demonstrated knowledge and willingness to implement safety and hygiene standards. Proven understanding and acceptance of varying cultural and language backgrounds and those with special needs. Proven ability to effectively communicate and interact with staff, children and families, and support services as required. Proven ability to work as an effective team. DESIRABLE Knowledge of other languages. Computer skills. 7.
