1 CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care DESCRIPTOR This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing, so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no entry requirements for this qualification. PACKAGING RULES Requirements for completion of the qualification: A successful assessment outcome for a total of 28 units of competency comprising: 23 core units 5 elective units CORE UNIT/S CHCECE002 Ensure the health and safety of children This unit describes the skills and knowledge to ensure the health and safety of children. Support each child s health needs Provide opportunities to meet each child s need for sleep, rest and relaxation Implement effective hygiene and health practices Supervise children to ensure safety Minimise risks Contribute to the ongoing management of allergies Contribute to the ongoing management of asthma CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support and protect children and young people who are at risk of harm. This work occurs within legislative and policy frameworks and carries a duty of care responsibility. Implement work practices which support the protection of children and young people Report indications of possible risk of harm Apply ethical and nurturing practices in work with children and young people

2 CHCCS400C Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to work within a legal and ethical framework that supports duty of care requirements. Communicate positively with children Interact positively with children Support and respect children Maintain the dignity and rights of children HLTHIR404D Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people This unit describes the communication and work practice skills and knowledge required to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the health industry context. It deals specifically with crosscultural awareness and issues involving working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, organisations and communities Reflect an awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and cultures in work practices Reflect an awareness of own and other cultural realities in work practices Communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people Reflect cultural safety in workplace and professional relationships Work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
