GOAL Participants will receive information regarding the transition from middle school to high school and the importance of career planning in this transitional period.

Objectives: Students/Parents will understand the importance of career planning. Students/Parents will receive information regarding student educational options after high school. Students/Parents will become familiar with high school programs at the local high school. Students/Parents will be exposed to the Georgia Career Information System and how this system can assist students in planning for their future.

High School Athletics Athletic eligibility:

Earning College Credit in HS Advance Placement (AP)-students can exempt classes or acquire advanced standing in college classes through participation in the College Board advance placement program Joint Enrollment-allows students to earn college credit. Dual Enrollment-HOPE allows students to simultaneously earn technical college and high school credit Dual Enrollment-ACCEL allows students to simultaneously earn degree program credit and high school credit. Articulated Credit-allows students who successfully complete an approved articulated course at the secondary school to have advanced standing/credit in postsecondary technical college programs. Options after high school educational exploration What level of education do students need to reach their career goal?

Postsecondary education and/or training is becoming more and more important when preparing for future employment.

The fact is... By 2010, more than 42 percent of job growth in the economy will require a vocational certificate, associate s degree, bachelor s degree, or higher. Bureau of Labor Statistics

The fact is... Between 2000 and 2010, jobs that require an associate s degree are projected to grow at a much faster rate than the average of all jobs: 21.7% v. 15.2% Bureau of Labor Statistics

The fact is... Six of the ten fastest growing jobs from 2002 to 2010 require some form of postsecondary education, and this trend will continue. Georgia HOPE Scholarship Be a high school graduate Maintain a 3.0 average on a 4.0 scale in college prep core curriculum classes (16 units in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language); maintain a 3.2 average on a 4.0 scale in Career/Technology core curriculum classes (14 units in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) Students are limited to 190 quarter hours or 127 semester hours including Dual Enrollment- HOPE, Dual Enrollment-ACCEL and Joint Enrollment at technical colleges.
