10 Apprenticeship/Trade School Requirements: Vary- may include high school transcript, application Average Annual Income: $24,000 $50,000 Apprenticeship/Trade School Info in Atlanta Area: Types of careers (examples): Skilled Laborer- Electrician, Welder, Trucker, Road Builder, Carpenter, Mason Cosmetologist/Hairstylist

11 Technical College Requirements: high school transcript, application, COMPASS Average Annual Income: $37,000 Technical College in the Atlanta area: Chattahoochee Technical College Types of programs (examples): Certificate - Automotive Body Repair Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, Tax Preparation Specialist Diploma Accounting, Cosmetology, Practical Nursing Associate Degree Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Care and Education, Sport and Recreation Management

12 2-year College Requirements: high school transcript, application, COMPASS, or SAT/ACT Average Annual Income: $40,000 2-year Schools in the Atlanta area: Georgia Perimeter Georgia Highlands You can earn an Associate s Degree from a 2-year college or technical college and then transfer to a 4- year college/university to complete a Bachelor s Degree.

13 4-year college/university Requirements for all: high school transcript, SAT/ACT, application Requirements for some: recommendation letters, essay, SAT Subject Test(s) Average Annual Income: $54,000 Two (2) units of a Foreign Language and advanced mathematics are required for admission to most 4-year colleges/universities. Some require or recommend three (3) units of a foreign language.

14 Graduation vs. Admissions Requirements Graduation (minimum) Determined by Georgia Department of Education Tracked by you, your teachers, and your school counselor Needed before you earn a diploma you get it, you graduate Must pass all the GHSGT or equivalent EOCT Admissions (above & beyond) Determined by the individual college Tracked by you it is your responsibility to find out what the school wants Needed before you can be admitted no guarantees for admissions Must take SAT or ACT or COMPASS

ACT 5 sections (math, English, science, reading and writing) No penalty for guessing 36 maximum score Achievement test SAT 3 sections (math, reading, and writing) Points deducted for incorrect answers 2400 maximum score Aptitude test Most colleges will accept either test. These tests are only required for admissions to four year colleges. Students can take both. See your school counselor for test prep resources!

16 Other tests I may need COMPASS Placement exam required for entrance to two year and technical colleges ASVAB Aptitude exam required for entrance into the military that determines your eligibility for military jobs Everyone who wants to walk at graduation and earn a high school diploma must take and pass all five sections of the GHSGT or equivalent EOCT.

Make a list of potential schools Compare your credentials to the school s admission requirements Review each school s application: Online application (preferred) Transcript Application fee Recommendations (if needed) Counselor Recommendation (or school evaluation) Teacher Recommendation (letter or form) Know your application deadlines!

Scholarship 3.0 Core GPA Needed Two year or four year degree Must graduate from a GA high school Must be a GA resident for at least one year Covers a percentage of tuition Grant No GPA requirement Technical certificate or diploma Must have a high school diploma or GED Must be a GA resident for at least one year Covers a percentage of tuition Apply for HOPE through FAFSA after January 1 of your senior year.
