5 SAT & ACT : College Admissions Test SAT Redesigned SAT: March 2016 Critical Reading & Math Writing optional, but colleges want at least one test (SAT or ACT)with writing Score range 200-8o0 each section Average score 1000 (total of CR & M sections) ACT English, Math, Reading, Science Reasoning Writing optional Score range from 1-36 each section Composite score average (average of all four sections) All four year colleges will accept either SAT or ACT.

8 College Credit in High School Advanced Placement (AP) Considered to be the most rigorous courses taken in High School Wando currently offers 21 AP Courses National Exams in May : Scores Determine College Credit Trident Technical College: Dual Credit High School and College Credit i.e. Trident Tech. English 101= High School English 4 College Credits may be transferrable but check with individual colleges ACT/SAT/Compass scores needed to qualify

9 Types of Scholarships Institutional Scholarshipsgiven by colleges to students who enroll that are from resources within the college s scholarship pool of money State Scholarshipsgiven by the state from the S.C. Education Lottery money Needs-Based Scholarshipgiven by Federal, State or local resources based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA info or other financial criteria Sponsored Scholarshipsgiven by organizations or local entities for a variety of criteria

10 State Sponsored Scholarships Palmetto Fellows (four year college only)- 1 st year-$6700 Must have all 3 of the following: 1200 SAT or 27 ACT, 3.5 cumulative weight GPA Top 6% of class at end of 10 th, 11 th or 12 th grade OR 1400 SAT or 32 ACT, 4.0 Cumulative GPA by end of Junior or Senior year.

11 State Sponsored Scholarships Life Scholarship (4 yr- $5000; 2 yr- Tuition+ Books) 3.0 cumulative weighted GPA (only criteria for 2 yr,), OR 2 of the 3 for four year college: 3.0 cumulative GPA, Top 30% of class at end of senior year, 1100 SAT or 24 ACT

12 State Sponsored Scholarships Hope Scholarship (four year college for one year-$2800) 3.0 cumulative GPA (Refer to page 87 of the Program of Studies)

13 Lottery Tuition and Needs-Based Grant Lottery Tuition money is available for students attending 2 year institutions who are enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours each term. Example- 3 credit hours cost= $489 6 Credit hours cost= $408 (Lottery pays $570) Needs Based Grants Must complete the FAFSA each academic year to determine eligibilty
