2 nd Annual Vascular Bootcamp for Nurses and Advanced Care Providers Saturday, January 24, 2015 8 AM to 3 PM Course Director: S. Knippel, RN, FNP-C Location: Hickey Auditorium, R11.1400 1515 Holcombe Blvd. 77030

Program Description Overview Vascular disease and cancer are the two leading causes of death in the United States and worldwide. Both diseases have similar risk factors resulting in many patients with coexistent disorders. In addition, individuals without vascular disease may have cancers or receive treatments that impact the vascular system. The purpose of the conference is to provide nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and technicians a comprehensive review of the current medical, endovascular, and surgical treatment options for acute and chronic vascular disorders, with a particular focus on the management of oncology patients with vascular disorders. Objective Nurses and advanced care providers who attend the conference will be able to recognize the coexistent signs and symptoms of cancer and vascular disease. Participants will have a broader understanding of the current best practice treatment options. Participants will identify the need for a multidisciplinary integrated treatment approach for patients with cancer and vascular disease. After completion of the conference, participants will have a concise understanding of the presented topics that will enable them to develop a logical plan of care. Continuing Education Credit Designation There will be 5.75 nursing contact hours provided which will include 1.00 pharmacology credit for nurses and advanced practice nurses. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to request 5.75 hours of AAPA Category 1CME credit from the Physician Assistant Review Panel. Total number of approved credits yet to be determined.
