BSW HIGH PERFORMANCE PRE-APPLIED SYSTEM FOR BLIND SIDE & BELOW GRADE WATERPROOFING APPLICATIONS BSW is a fully reinforced Pre-Applied system membrane designed for horizontal and vertical external blind-side waterproofing applications. The system is composed of a select blend of high performance SBS modified bitumen combined with an ultra high strength reinforcement and a specially formulated top surface. Time & cost saving on project schedule & budget; Eliminates the need for concrete screed on the horizontal; Eliminates the need for protection board on the vertical; Allows for optional design considerations for the use of water stop; Excellent protection against water infiltration at critical locations; Superior mechanical properties; Resistant to chemicals (Chloride, Sulphate and Ph level between 2 and 10). Outstanding adhesion to structural poured concrete; Homogeneous, fully sealed systems on overlaps; Non-Permeable to vapor and gas; Fast & easy installation; No tapes are required.

CONCEPT & VALUE CONCEPT The system is to provide a full and continuous bond of the membrane to the poured structural concrete to waterproof and protect the sub-structure envelope from the blindside. This will eliminate the potential of water penetration and leakage. COLPHENE BSW (Pre-Applied Waterproofing System Fully Bonded to Structural Concrete) As it is normal behaviour of concrete to crack it is always necessary to protect it from water infiltration. The technology and concept of COLPHENE BSW ensure watertight substructure envelope. FULLY BONDED TO STRUCTURAL CONCRETE Waterproofing System (When not Bonded to the Structural Concrete Slab) When water migration between membrane and structural concrete in blindside waterproofing is present, the structure becomes vulnerable and the liability of the design and construction team is huge and the remedy is expensive. LOOSE LAID FULLY BONDED TO THE BLINDING VALUE COLPHENE BSW system with its superior adhesion to poured concrete, high resistance to hydrostatic pressure and excellent resistance to tear and puncture is the optimum solution for the design and construction team to keep the water on the outside and ensure a dry, leak free substructure envelope. 1

TECHNOLOGY TECHNOLOGY The COLPHENE BSW system membrane composition is designed with an engineered technology utilizing the exothermic synergy to create a superior mechanical bond-strength of the membrane to the structural poured concrete, introducing a unique, unsurpassed Pre- Applied / Blind-Side waterproofing system to the construction industry featuring: MORE WATERPROOFING CAPABILITIES ENHANCED REINFORCEMENT The ultra-high strength reinforcement is fully encapsulated in bitumen on both sides providing excellent dimensional stability. CONTINUOUS BOND Continuous and homogenous bond to structural concrete. LAP-ADHESION Unsurpassed lap adhesion. PEEL STRENGTH Excellent adhesion to the structural poured concrete surface. PUNCTURE RESISTANCE Puncture resistant. The top face of the membrane is SBS modified bitumen covered with sand. The specially formulated surface softens slightly as the concrete starts to cure, releasing heat. This promotes adherence of the membrane to the concrete, and prevents the ingress or migration of water around the structure. PENETRATION DETAILING RESISTANCE TO HYDROSTATIC HEAD COLPHENE BSW can be used in application where high hydrostatic pressure is present. Membranes have been designed to withstand up to 114 m, where other conventional waterproofing become vulnerable. COLPHENE BSW have been proven to resist water migration in such conditions. Waterproofing Penetrations through slabs and walls represent a high risk area for water penetration and leakage. At these points, it is crucial to ensure an effective continuous seal between the membrane and the penetration. ALSAN FLASHING single component, polyurethane, bitumen liquid is a UV resistant waterproofing membrane recommended for this application. This is an essential component of the system to ensure complete, continous seal of substructure envelope. DURABILITY 60 days UV stabilized 60 days exposure to UV will not affect performance of waterproofing system. High mechanical properties to withstand traffic, puncture and exterior elements. 2

APPLICATIONS, INSTALLATION & ADVANTAGES INSTALLATION GUIDELINES APPLICATIONS BLIND-SIDE (Where Excavation and Access are limited) BELOW-GRADE STRUCTURES UNDER CONCRETE SLABS AS VAPOUR BARRIER RETAINING WALLS (POSITIVE SIDE) TUNNELS & UNDERPASSES. HORIZONTAL WATERPROOFING a. In horizontal application apply the COLPHENE BSW H loose laid on the concrete blinding or compacted soil. b. End laps will be staggered by at least 300 mm. c. Seal all overlaps by heat-welding with a torch. Side lap to be minimum 75 mm and end lap to be minimum 150 mm. VERTICAL WATERPROOFING a. COLPHENE BSW V is installed in vertical strip of 5 meter maximum onto acceptable substrate by removing the siliconed release film on the underside. b. Ensure minimum 75 mm side overlap between each strip. c. Use a hard roller approved by membrane s manufacturer to apply pressure over the entire surface of the membrane in order to ensure sufficient adhesion to prevent membrane movement during installation of poured in place concrete. d. Heat all side lap edges with a torch and use a round nose trowel to create a perfect seal with melted bitumen. e. The uppermost edge of each strip must be mechanically fastened to substrate using 50 mm (diameter) round plates and appropriate fasteners for blinding material at every 300 mm on centre. f. Horizontal joints shall be aligned and overlapped by minimum 200 mm covering all fasteners. g. Install a 300 mm reinforcement strip of COLPHENE BSW H fully heat-welded with a torch centered on all horizontal joints. DETAILS a. All angle changes as well as inside and outside corners must be reinforced by installing an additional 300 mm piece of COLPHENE BSW H centered in the angle. b. All small protrusions (steel work, pile cap, etc.) through the waterproofing membrane, must be sealed with ALSAN FLASHING waterproofing coating and FLASHING REINFORCEMENT as required. PROTECTION LAYER a. On all horizontal surfaces, it is recommended to apply COLPHENE BSW PROTECT R as a protection layer over the COLPHENE BSW H prior to placement of the reinforcement steel bars as a precaution to limit the chances of any incidentals while work is in progress. b. Install the protection sheet in longitudinal strip centered over COLPHENE BSW H side laps by removing the siliconed realease film on the underside. c. Use a broom or a heavy roller to apply a uniform pressure over the entire surface of the protection sheet COLPHENE BSW PROTECT R. INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL a. The contractor shall verify meticulously the membrane installation at the end of each day of work as well as before the steel work. b. Holes and tears in the membrane must be repaired with a reinforcement membrane (COLPHENE BSW H). The repair must exceed the affected surface area by at least 100 mm. 6
