Greetings Ladies and gentlemen Brazil has the honor to receive the participants of the Pan American Flatwater Championship 2009, to be held from July 3rd to 5th in Brazil. The event will have the beautiful Rodrigo de Freita s Lake, located in one of the noblest areas of Rio de Janeiro, like as scene view and competition local. The realization of Pan American 2009, approved by the Pan Americano Confederation, gives to the Brazilian Canoeing Federation the organization of this important sporting event in Brazil. Moreover, Brazil in recent years has become important center to the achievement of local events in world canoeing, like when it was headquarters of the World Slalom Championships, held in Foz do Iguaçu, and of course, the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, both performed successfully in 2007. For Brazil and the Brazilian Canoeing Federation the Panamerican Flatwater Championship 2009 provides the opportunity to show the world the qualities and abilities of the country in the programming events of this size. This fact is very important to us that will receive the World Cup Football in 2014, and also seek to bring here the Olympics Games in 2016. This is very important not only for the brazilian people, but also for the city of Rio de Janeiro that demand through the implementation of international sporting events, the seriousness and the example of organization for the entire sports community on the planet. I would like to express to all participants of the Pan American Championship 2009 my welcome to those who make the canoeing its most profound source of pleasure and professionalism. Welcome to Rio de Janeiro. RIO: THE MOST AMIABLE CITY IN THE WORLD For its many facets, Rio is the brazilian tourism capital. The course area The Rodrigo de Freita s Lake is a major postcards of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. With 2.4 million square meters of area and located in a prime local of the city, is on its water that the people practice many water sports, including canoeing. It was the place where the canoeing dispute occured in the XV Panamerican Games Rio 2007, opportunity to Brazil entered the history of the sport to ensure the achievement of six medals, record for the sport in the country. The lake is surrounded by a cycleway and you can follow the canoeing events from several different points. During the Pan Rio 2007 were held in lake the canoeing, rowing and water skiing events. In its surroundings, are a stage of rowing (Rowing Stadium of the Lagoon), a paved cycleway path with 7.5 km long, several recreational facilities and kiosks for food, offering items from regional and international cuisine. It is the largest outdoor food center in Latin America, distributed in an area of 204 square meters.
