Course Description This program focuses on acute care of the hospitalized patient and is applicable to physicians, hospitalists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, advanced practice nurses, and RN s from novice to experienced. The course covers everything from critical care, hospital general medicine, surgery, neurology, cardiology, oncology, pain management and other medical subspecialties. As hospital care models continue to evolve; nurse practitioners and physician assistants are playing an increasingly vital role in the care delivery of hospitalized patients. This conference focuses on providing the most upto-date, evidence-based guidelines and treatment pathways necessary to optimally care for hospitalized patients. The course features multiple options for skills workshops to further tailor the educational needs of nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Course Learning Objectives Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to: Describe a rational approach to assessment and management of the high acuity hospitalized patient. Formulate an action plan based on scientific rationale, evidence-based standards of care, and practice guidelines. Initiate appropriate and timely consultation and/or referral when necessary. Describe assessment, current guidelines and drug therapies for VTE. Explain heart failure management in complex hospitalized patients. Attendance at this Mayo course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught in this course. Credit Mayo Clinic College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Mayo Clinic College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 32.0 (19.75 general session, 12.75 workshops) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
