2 General Information Course Description Course topics will include information on new intraocular lenses and techniques, scleral contact lenses, calibration, use and interpretation of keratometric measurements, macular degeneration and the Mayo Clinic Low Vision Service, periorbital surgical procedures, including evisceration, enucleation and exoneration, facial prostheses, and discussion of technical staff behavioral characteristics. Course Objectives As a result of participating in this course, attendees should be able to: 1) Understand and identify new intraocular lenses. 2) Become familiar with the history, use, and principles of scleral contact lenses. 3) Outline the calibration, use and interpretation of keratometry. 4) Understand the management of aging brows. 5) Understand the difference between evisceration, enucleation and exoneration. 6) Understand the planning of facial prostheses and the defects they restore. Intended Audience This course is designed for Ophthalmic Assistants, Technicians, Technologists, RN s, LPN s and Ophthalmic Surgical Technicians. Accreditation This course has been submitted to JCAHPO and the Minnesota Board of Nursing for consideration of Continuing Education Credit. Date and Location Ophthalmology Update will be held Saturday, March 15, Course headquarters will be located in Geffen Auditorium, in the subway level of the Gonda Building, 100 Third Avenue SW, Rochester, Minnesota. Meeting facilities are easily accessible by skyway and pedestrian subway, which connect to Mayo Clinic, shops, theaters, restaurants, and hotels. Please bring a sweater or jacket as the meeting room temperature may be cool. Registration To register, complete the attached registration form and return by mail or fax. The $60 registration fee includes tuition, comprehensive course syllabus, continental breakfast, and refreshment break. Although it is not Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education policy to limit the number of registrants for a course, conference room facilities may necessitate closing of enrollment; therefore, early registration is strongly advised. A letter of confirmation will be sent upon receipt of payment and completed registration form.

3 General Information Cancellation Policy Registration fee, less a $25 administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by the Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education before April 10, No refunds will be made after February 8, Lodging Accommodations Please see the Rochester Convention and Visitors Bureau web site for a complete listing of hotels/motels, dining, etc.: Parking Parking is available in hotel, city, and Mayo patient/visitor ramps. The cost for parking is not included in the registration fee. A map indicating the location of downtown parking facilities will be mailed with the registrant confirmation letter.
