Grad. vs College Requirements Subject Graduation A-G (UC and CSU s) Social Science 3 years 2 years English 4 years 4 years Math 2 years 3 years/4 recommended Science 2 years 2 years Must be lab science(does not include Earth Science or Ag Science) LOTE Language other than English Visual and Performing Arts Electives Not required but can be one of the 3 classes used to satisfy 1 of 3 classes for Arts/LOTE requirement. Need at least 1 from either category: VAPA/Applied Any additional class above requirement is put into electives 2 years /3 recommended 1 year 1 year of college prep elective See: UC Doorways for a list of classes

Repeating High School Courses Courses used to satisfy the a-g requirements in which the student earns D or F grades must be repeated with grades of C or higher. Math and LOTE: VALIDATION Validation ONLY applies to Math and LOTE **If you earned a D the first semester, and earned an A, B, or C in the second semester you still meet the requirement. WARNING: If you validate, the D or F will still be calculated in your GPA.

What if I receive a D or F in any other a-g subject? What are my options for credit recovery or grade improvement? EdOptions: 7 th period class, online, FREE CACE-night school, 2 days a week. (English and Social Science Only) Community College-must be approved by Counselor, FREE NOTE: UCs and CSUs DO NOT accept ONLINE lab science * Check with Counselor before making any plans

UC (A-G) REQUIREMENTS Complete any 11 UCapproved a-g courses prior to senior year Complete all 15-course a-g subject pattern by the end of senior year Must be completed with a grade of C or better Which means, the minimum GPA to apply is a 3.0 GPA, however

ELIGIBILITY VS. SELECTION

UC: Comprehensive Review Freshmen will be selected on the basis of academic and personal achievement, as assessed through a comprehensive review of all information provided on the application. Campuses draw from 14 academic and personal factors approved by University faculty, below is a summary. Campuses Look For Strong grades, test scores & course preparation A robust educational experience Assess Students Within Context Educational environment Available resources and opportunities The Full Application Not just the personal statement Not just grades and test scores Full list of factors: LIST OF 14 FACTORS CONSIDERED IN COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

California State University Admission offices at the 23 campuses use three factors to determine eligibility. Complete at least 11 of 15 A-G courses by end of the year Must receive C or better in all "a-g" courses Graduation from high school Meet or exceed the minimum eligibility index GPA minimum 2.0 with qualifying ACT or SAT scores Eligibility calculator: SAT: (GPA * 800) + SAT (CR & M) ACT: (200*GPA) + (10 *ACT Total) Minimum Needed: 2900(SAT) or 694(ACT)

Minimum Eligibility vs. Selection Eligibility: meeting minimum requirements for UC & CSU admission. Impaction: If the number of applicants exceeds the spaces available for a particular campus or major; the campus uses criteria that exceed the minimum requirements to select students. Example: SJSU, San Diego, SLO, Fullerton, Long Beach (All majors impacted) Meeting the minimum requirements is not enough to gain admissions to MOST UC campuses and some CSU campuses. Non-impacted CSU s: Bakersfield East Bay (Hayward) Stanislaus Channel Islands Dominguez Hills

Test Requirements 4 year campuses (UC, CSU, Private) Take SAT and/or ACT with writing Writing portion not calculated for CSU eligibility CSU: superscore (critical reading/math) UC: highest score from one single test date NOTE: The new SAT(March 2016)-the essay it optional, but UC still requires it, so do it! Subject tests are NOT REQUIRED but are recommended for certain schools and majors(uc/csu) http://tinyurl.com/exam-requirements Private Schools/Out of State: Check individual school for subject test requirements

Testing Dates ALL SOPHMORES WILL BE TAKING THE PSAT ON OCTOBER 14 TH DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. Plan to take the SAT/ACT in the Spring of Junior year. Fee waivers are available to students that are on Free/Reduced Lunch Free Test Prep Resources www.number2.com College Board SAT & ACT prep text message of the day KHAN academy www.khanacademy.org

Redesigned SAT 5 Things You Should Know About the New SAT: 1. Although the essay section will be optional for most test takers, UC will require it for admission. 2. A perfect score will be 1600. 3. Goodbye, SAT words"; hello, real-world language. Demonstrate that you understand the kinds of words that you might encounter in college courses (e.g., synthesis, empirical). 4. The verbal and math sections now will be based on material students may encounter in a college classroom. Students will analyze passages and solve equations pulled from a broad range of disciplines, including science, social studies and history. 5. There will no longer be a penalty for incorrect answers. No more worrying about those educated guesses! You will earn points only for questions answered correctly. Sample questions are available: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/ sample-questions/reading
