2 CONFERENCE GOAL The focus of the 7 th Annual Arkansas Statewide Preparedness Conference is to foster partnerships that will enhance our abilities in planning and improving our efficiency in response when disasters occur in Arkansas and beyond its borders. We will take a look at past experiences and lessons learned in order to be better prepared to meet the challenges of the future. TARGET AUDIENCE This educational activity is designed for all professionals involved in emergency preparedness planning and recovery. OJECTIVES At the conclusion of this activity the participant will be able to: Discuss the role of the American Red Cross in planning for and responding to disasters. Discuss the principles of the FireWise Safety Plan for Arkansas communities. Learn the elements of a RAN, Rapid Assessment of Needs as a means of communicating the needs of a community affected in a disaster situation. Discuss the importance of successful media interface during disaster response. Appraise the various roles and challenges of first responders, disaster managers, healthcare professionals and other public safety officials in the management of disaster response. Discuss lessons learned from experiences in the Haiti earthquake disaster recovery efforts. Discuss the guidelines of functional needs planning for people with disabilities in response to disaster recovery efforts. Discuss the current status in the implementation process for the Arkansas Trauma System. Discuss the impact that ATU s Center for Preparedness and Response will have in planning, training, and responding to emergency situations in the future. Discuss FEMA s plan to promote, on a grassroots level, efforts to improve disaster readiness on a personal as well as organizational level. Identify the successes and lessons learned from the recent H1N1 pandemic episode. Provide information on the development of the Medical Reserve Corp program in Arkansas or Provide information on the new direction of the Medical Reserve Corp program in Arkansas or Discuss the benefits of the Medical Reserve Corp for communities in Arkansas Inform volunteers of the liability protection they have when responding to a disaster CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS CHES CE Credits An application has been submitted to the Society of Public Health Education (SOPHE) for Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) for certified health education specialists (CHES). SOPHE, including its chapters, is a designated multiple event provider of CECHs by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. EMT/Paramedic CE Credits The Arkansas Department of Health s Section of EMS and Trauma System for has approved all sessions of this activity for EMT continuing education credits. Up to CE credits are available. Nursing CE Credits UAMS Partners for Inclusive Communities is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Arkansas Nurses Association (ArNA). The Arkansas Nurses Association is an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC-COA). This activity provides contact hours. Physician Continuing Medical Education Credits Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Other CE Credits Continuing Education Credits will be requested for law enforcement officials, long-term care administrators, and pharmacists. 2
