1 Southern Cross Soloists Thank you for an amazing camp! It was a fantastic experience, something that I will remember for the rest of my life Participant, 2014 September 20-26, 2015 St Peters Lutheran College, Indooroopilly Qld Winner of the 2009 APRA AMC Award for Contribution to Australian Music Education.
2 INTRODUCTION AND WELCOME TANIA FRAZER, CREATIVE DIRECTOR, SxS Southern Cross Soloists is delighted to be presenting our 9th SxS Music School for high school students in This year the school has moved to the spring holidays and will take place at the incredible new music facilities at St Peters Lutheran College in Indooroopilly, Brisbane. We are offering many new initiatives including audition preparation classes for Grade 12s who plan to take tertiary entrance auditions, and innovative musicianship classes that will empower each student to gain confidence in their music making experiences, whilst still being a fun learning experience. Not just another music camp, the SxS Spring Music School offers a world-class music education to each and every student, delivering exciting, enriching and uplifting experiences that inspire and become treasured memories for life. SxS Spring Music School is a great starting point for young musicians to experience playing together, develop their communication skills, and extend their minds and emotions. Listening to and playing alongside the world-class teaching staff, students will take their musical skills to a whole new level, and have a lot of fun along the way. Each year, we see the students transform before our eyes as they acquire new skills that make playing their instrument easier and more enjoyable, and we are heartened to now see many of those students go on to successful careers in the music industry. This year we will continue our relationship with the Rockhampton Eisteddfod, and SunWater, providing scholarships for regional students to attend the school, and we also thank our major sponsors Arts Queensland and the Australia Council for the Arts for their generous support. We look forward to welcoming you to the SxS Music School. ABOUT SOUTHERN CROSS SOLOISTS Celebrating our 20th anniversary as one of Australia s leading chamber ensembles, Southern Cross Soloists vision is to enrich peoples lives through the power of music. SxS takes a multifaceted approach to delivering its vision through producing high quality performances, collaborating with artists at the forefront of chamber music, providing innovative learning opportunities to diverse communities and celebrating music by creating intimate connections with artists, audiences, students and communities in all contexts. SxS strongly believe in delivering excellence in all areas of their practice. Through the Music School, SxS has developed innovative and cutting-edge teaching methods that have positively impacted on hundreds of student s music-making experiences over the last 10 years.
