College of Saint Benedict Reunion 2015 Frequently Asked Questions If you have any remaining questions, please contact Emily Stamp in the Alumnae Relations office at or by calling (320) Registration Questions Q: What is included with the registration fee? Why does it double in June? A: A lot goes in to hosting a Reunion worthy of your time and excitement. The registration fee helps Saint Ben s offset some of the costs for the large and small things that make the weekend an amazing experience. These costs include staff time and extra touches such as golf carts standing ready to zip you around campus. The registration fee doubles in June because, as the weekend draws closer, it is more costly to add staff and other items necessary to comfortably accommodate additional attendees. Q: Who can attend reunion with me? A: As long as you are a Bennie celebrating your Reunion year (0s and 5s), you are welcome to have guests accompany you to Reunion. Spouses, family members and Bennie classmates from any year are welcome to register with you. Q: If I register my Johnnie friends (or husband, boyfriend, etc.) at Saint Ben s, do they have to register at Saint John s as well? A: If your Johnnie friend (spouse or otherwise) is celebrating his own Reunion (0s and 5s) and intends to participate in Saint John s Reunion meals and events, he will need to register through the Saint John s registration page. However, you can sign him up for housing with you on the Saint Ben s campus by calling the Alumnae Relations Office. If your Johnnie friend is not celebrating his own Reunion and does not intend to participate in Saint John s Reunion events, you simply need to register him as a guest when you register through Saint Ben s. Q: If my Johnnie friends (or husband, boyfriend, etc.) register me as their guest at Saint John s, do I have to register at Saint Ben s as well? A: If you are a Bennie celebrating your Reunion year (0s and 5s) and plan to attend Saint Ben s Reunion events, you will need to register through Saint Ben s, even if your housing will be at Saint John s. If you are a Bennie who is not celebrating her Reunion year and you do not plan to attend Reunion events hosted by Saint Ben s, then you do not need to be registered at Saint Ben s. 1
Q: I am coming to Reunion. If my guest comes to meet me for one meal only (e.g., Sunday brunch) do they have to register for Reunion? A: All guests attending Reunion 2015 events are required to pay a registration fee. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact Anne Sumangil at asumangil@csbsju.edu or Q: I live in St. Cloud and can only join my friends for the picnic at Saint John s. Do I have to pay the Saint Ben s registration fee or can I only pay for the picnic at the door? How much will it be? A: You may pay for the picnic at the door, but all Reunion attendees are required to pay the registration fee. With this in mind, we strongly encourage registering before Reunion weekend to take advantage of the early-bird pricing, which ends June 2. Q: Do I have to register for everything or can I pay as I go? A: To help us best prepare for Reunion with an accurate count of guests, we encourage all Reunion guests to register prior to Reunion weekend. Q: Is my spouse and/or family invited to Reunion? A: Saint Ben s welcomes our Bennies spouses and families to join them in celebrating Reunion. Please register all guests when you register at Housing Questions Q: If I am part of a couple coming to Reunion together and we only want one bed, do we still have to pay per person? A: Yes. The Saint Ben s housing policy states that Reunion housing is per person, per night. Please note that the only beds available in the residence halls are twin beds. You are welcome to share one of these beds, but our policy indicates that each person staying on campus for Reunion is required to pay a housing fee. Q: My friends and I only need housing, we are not going to any of the meals or activities. Do we have to pay the registration fee? A: Yes. To attend Reunion 2015, all guests staying on campus are required to pay a registration fee. 2
Q: Can four couples (eight people) stay in a quad and only pay for four beds? A: Per the housing policy, Reunion housing is per person, per night. Each person hoping to stay in a quad would need to pay for her or his own stay. Q: Can I purchase housing for my Bennie friends, but not register them? A: Yes. Please contact the Alumnae Relations Office to complete registration if you would like to pay for housing but not register your Bennie friends or classmates. Q: Can I bring an air mattress and just sleep on someone s floor? A: You can bring an air mattress if that is your preference. Please note that you will be required to pay the housing fee in order to stay on campus during Reunion. Q: Do I have to pay for housing if I m just sleeping on my friend s couch in West Apartments? A: Yes. Per the housing policy, Reunion housing is per person, per night. Each person hoping to stay in a room on campus needs to pay for her or his own stay. Q: Can I bring a tent? A: Yes. Tenting is available on the Saint Ben s campus during Reunion. There is a $20, one-time, per-tent fee. Each tent must be no bigger than 11 x 17. A designated area for tenting will be located near the Benedicta Arts Center (BAC). Restrooms will be available in the BAC on Friday and Saturday night and showers for guests who are tenting will be available in the pool locker rooms in Murray Hall. Q: Is there separate housing for families and if so, where? A: Yes. Family housing is available upon request. Parties with mixed-gender and/or family requests will be housed in the West Apartments. If you are in the class of 2010 or 2015, mixed-gender and family housing will be available at the Luetmer Apartments with your classmates. Q: Will I have a refrigerator in my room? A: Refrigerators are only available in the West Apartments, which are reserved for family and mixedgender housing. If you need refrigeration accommodations, please contact the Alumnae Relations Office. Q: Can I pick where I want to stay? A: Housing assignments have been predetermined and are designated by class year. Reunion guests can select the type of room they prefer to stay in, such as a single occupancy room, double, triple, etc., and if they need family or mixed-gender housing. 3
Q: Why can t we stay in Centennial Commons? A: Centennial Commons is reserved for students who are working on campus during the summer. Q: Can I stay at Saint John s? A: You can stay at Saint John s if you are the guest of a Johnnie who is registered at Saint John s and celebrating his Reunion year (0s and 5s). Q: My husband (boyfriend, friend, etc.) registered us at Saint John s. Can we utilize Saint Ben s for housing? A: If you are a Bennie celebrating her Reunion year (0s and 5s) and were registered at Saint John s, you and your Johnnie husband (boyfriend, friend, etc.) are welcome to stay on the Saint Ben s campus. Please contact the Alumnae Relations Office to sign-up for housing and any meals and/or events you wish to join. However, if you are not in your Reunion year but your husband (boyfriend, friend, etc.) is, then you will need to make housing arrangements at Saint John s. Q: Can I purchase housing for my Johnnie friends, but not register them? A: If your Johnnie friends are registered at Saint John s but want to stay on the Saint Ben s campus, please contact the Alumnae Relations Office to complete your registration (only you will pay the registration fee at Saint Ben s, and you can purchase housing for you and your Johnnie friends). However, if they are not registered at Saint John s, they will need to pay the Saint Ben s registration fee along with their housing fee, which you can complete in your own registration by adding them as guests. Events and Meals Q: Are Bennies welcome to go to Saint John s programming and vice-versa? A: For events which do not require payment, Bennies and Johnnies can attend events on either campus. However, for those events, such as the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony, where a Bennie RSVP and payment are required, then a Johnnie can only attend the Gala if he is the guest of a Bennie who is celebrating her Reunion year and has registered and paid for both to attend. Q: Can I go to the Saint John s alum college sessions? A: Yes. All alum college sessions are open for both Bennies and Johnnies to attend. 4
Q: Can my Johnnie friends attend the Saint Ben s alum college sessions? A: Yes. All alum college sessions are open for both Bennies and Johnnies to attend. Q: What classes will be offered? A: Both Saint Ben s and Saint John s will offer a selection of alum college sessions. The schedule and course description for these sessions will be available soon. Q: What is the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony? A: The Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony celebrates our 21,000 alumnae and their impact around the world. We will hear four inspiring stories from this year s award winners. Wear your cocktail attire and prepare to be awe-struck! Q: Can my spouse come with me to the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony? A: We welcome all guests who accompany Bennies who are celebrating their Reunion year and who are registered for Reunion. Guests must be registered with the Bennie and have purchased a ticket for the event. Q: I am a Saint Ben s alumna and my husband registered me for Saint John s Reunion. If I only want to come to the Gala, how do I register and how much is it? What if I don t register now, but decide to go day of? A: The Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony is available for all Bennies celebrating their Reunion year (0s and 5s) and their guests. The cost for this event is $38. If you are registered at Saint John s, please contact the Saint Ben s Alumnae Relations Office to reserve your spot at the Gala Dinner as your registration fee will be waived since you have registered at Saint John s. We strongly recommend registering for this event in advance because seating is limited. Q: I am a 2004 Saint Ben s alumna and my husband (a 2005 alum) registered me for Saint John s Reunion. Can I go to the Gala with my 2005 friends? A: Yes. You can attend the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony if your 2005 friends register you as a guest, or if you contact the Alumnae Relations Office. Please note that your registration fee will be waived since you have registered at Saint John s. 5
Q: What type of entertainment is there at night? A: Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, Saint Ben s will host a joint CSB/SJU alum social and picnic. Sunset Stages will also be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, in the Darnall Amphitheater on the Saint Ben s campus. At 6 p.m. Saturday, June 27, Saint Ben s will host the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony for Bennies and their guests. Saint John s will then host a concert featuring Martin Zeller off-campus at Sal s Bar & Grill, beginning at 8 p.m. On both evenings, guests are welcome to visit local St. Joe establishments and spend time with their classmates and friends. Q: Who is playing at Sunset Stages? A: Shaun Johnson, SJU 94 (of Tonic Sol-Fa and the Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience), will play at Sunset Stages on Friday night. Shaun is an Emmy Award-winning singer/songwriter who takes big band music and fuses it with modern day mixes of all genres. Shaun has entertained with Jay Leno, been featured in Newsweek and performed on the Today Show. Q: Can I cancel or add meals once I am at Reunion? A: Meals are non-refundable after June 12 and are non-transferrable/exchangeable. No registrations will be taken at the door for the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony and/or the Golden Anniversary Dinner (class of 1965). All other meals can be added once you are at Reunion, but all Reunion attendees are required to pay the registration fee. With this in mind, we strongly encourage registering before Reunion weekend to take advantage of the early-bird pricing, which ends June 2. Q: What if I purchase breakfast at Saint Ben s, but end up going to breakfast at Saint John s? Is it transferable? A: Meals are non-transferrable between Saint Ben s and Saint John s during this year s Reunion. Q: Can my Johnnie friends come to Saint Ben s for brunch Sunday morning? Do they have to register at Saint Ben s if they are registered at Saint John s? A: Saint John s alumni are welcome to attend brunch Sunday morning. If they are registered for Reunion at Saint John s, they will not need to register at Saint Ben s to join for brunch. However, if they are not registered at either campus, they will be required to pay a registration fee and the meal fee at the door. Q: Can I go to Saint John s for dinner Saturday night? A: The Reunion dinner Saturday night at Saint John s is exclusively for Saint John s reunion attendees and their guests. 6
Q: Will there be transportation between the two campuses? A: Yes. Transportation via the Link (aka, the Bennie Bus) will be available throughout Reunion weekend between the Saint Ben s and Saint John s campuses. The schedule will be released closer to Reunion weekend. Q: Will we have scheduled time with our Johnnie classmates? A: From 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, Saint Ben s will host a joint CSB/SJU alum social and picnic to which the Johnnies have been invited. On Saturday, June 27, from noon-1:15 p.m., Saint John s will host a joint CSB/SJU alum lunch, to which the Bennies have been invited. Both Bennies and Johnnies are also welcome to attend alum college sessions together. Lastly, there will be time available in the evenings for classes to socialize. Q: Does our class have a Facebook group? A: At this time, there are a variety of Facebook pages among Reunion classes. If you are curious about whether your class has a Facebook group, please contact the Alumnae Relations Office. Q: Can President Mary Dana Hinton have lunch with us, or have special time with our class? A: Unfortunately, President Hinton is unable to visit with each class on an individual basis. However, she will be present throughout Reunion weekend, attending many of the planned events and will welcome the opportunity to get to know our Reunion attendees. Q: Will we be able to see a list of both Bennies and Johnnies that are attending? A: Separate attendee lists can be found at and Click the red Attendee List button found at the top of the page. If you have any remaining questions, please contact Emily Stamp in the Alumnae Relations office at csbalumnae@csbsju.edu or by calling (320)
