1 ST HILDA S COLLEGE OXFORD ABOUT US Where we are St Hilda s College is set in its own extensive grounds at the end of a quiet street right off one of the main hubs of central Oxford (see enclosed map). The college is easy to get to by car (we have some parking available within the college grounds. Additional parking for delegates can usually be arranged nearby), by public transport (a range of long-distance and city buses stop just at the top of the culde-sac) or on foot (we are a 20 minute stroll from Oxford railway station). Once through the college gates, however, a whole new world awaits you. The college buildings are set within a series immaculately maintained gardens which run down to the river Cherwell, with meadows and playing fields stretching out beyond on the far bank. Whatever the time of year, the grounds provide relaxation for the eye and the mind, whether wandering through them or merely looking out over them. For the more adventurous, there is also punting on the river available from within the gardens. How we came to be here St Hilda s College was founded in 1893 as an all-women s college. The founder, Dorothea Beale, an eminent pioneer of women s education, was determined that women should have open to them the same academic opportunities that had been available to men for centuries. The college began in a large detached mansion, with just 6 students. Nowadays it is co-educational, has a wide range of buildings on the grounds, including the world-renowned Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, and an intake of over 500 graduate and undergraduate students. The origins of St Hilda s, however, can still be glimpsed in the college coat of arms, with the unicorns and stars recalling the Beale family, and the curled snake or ammonite referring back to St Hilda herself, who is said to have turned the local Whitby snakes to stone so that her nuns could go unafraid about their business. St Hilda s, secluded but central, provides just that sheltered calm, but with all the most up-to-date amenities to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Lecture halls and auditoria For larger groups, St Hilda s can provide you with the stunning cleancut lines and superb acoustics of the Jacqueline du Pré Building. The Edward Boyle Auditorium seats up to 200 delegates, while the Brian Duke Foyer can act as an area for break-out sessions, exhibitions, drinks receptions or dinners, easily accommodating up to 120 at any one time. Overnight accommodation St Hilda s offers accommodation for up to 210 delegates, en suite facilities and disabled access available. Travel and parking St Hilda s is easily accessible by road, bus and train. Long-distance buses stop 150 yards from the college, while the railway station is an easy 20 minute walk (or 10 minute taxi ride) away. Meeting rooms A wide range of smaller meeting rooms are at your disposal, from the intimacy of the Canada Room (seating 14) to the grandeur of the Vernon Harcourt Room (seating 70). Different rooms have different flavours, from the impressive to the charming simply suit the room to the size of your group and the nature of your meeting.

With its mixture of grandeur, distinction and elegance, St Hilda s also provides a superb setting for product and business launches and our chef can provide canapés to make even the most jaded journalist smile Dinners A formal dinner in Hall, with full waiter service, and a view across the college grounds down to the river is something you can be sure your guests will delight in. Or perhaps you would prefer an intimate gathering of 12 or 20 in one of our smaller but still stately dining rooms, with the sense of being select and set apart. 7 ST HILDA S COLLEGE OXFORD FACILITIES The dining hall can welcome large groups formally seating up to 200 people, whereas rooms like the Vernon Harcourt building or the Canada Room can also be used for smaller, more relaxed gatherings. A range of menus is available from simple buffets to full silver service, and our Head Chef is on hand to discuss your requests. Car parking should be booked in advance as it is limited in the college, though bookings can be made at facilities within a few minutes walking distance of the college. 11 ST HILDA S COLLEGE OXFORD ACCOMMODATION St Hilda s College has six different accommodation buildings, each with their own unique character, but with a common emphasis on comfort and quality. Throughout the different buildings, we can house up to 210 delegates. There are two main kinds of accommodation. In the Christina Barrett Building, we can provide up to 36 en suite rooms, as well as facilities for the disabled. The balance of the rooms are study bedrooms, with washbasin, and tea and coffee making facilities.
