TAS , Criteria for Testing Products Subject to Cyclic Wind Pressure Loading. 5.0 Test Specimen Description: Overall Size: 2' 7" wide by 5' 5" long by 3' 0" high Curb Size: 2' 7-1/2" wide by 2' 7-1/2" long by 1' 8" high Fan Construction: The fan assembly was mounted on a fully welded 16 gauge galvanized steel curb. The fan was assembled on a base constructed of 16 gauge galvanized steel. The inlet was constructed of 0.080" thick aluminum and was secured to the base plate using 1/4"-20 x 1" bolts and weld nuts which were spaced 9" on center. The blower housing was constructed of a formed scroll made of 20 gauge aluminized steel, a support ring made of 5/8" by 3/4" by 1/8" galvanized steel, and a vertical support made of 16 gauge galvanized steel. The grease scoop was constructed of 18 gauge aluminized steel and was secured to the blower housing using 1/4"-20 x 1" bolts and weld nuts located 2" from each end and spaced 8" on center around the perimeter. The motor assembly and the fan wheel were secured to a 12 gauge galvanized steel plate that opened on a hinge system on top of the blower housing. In the closed position, the assembly was secured through the plate into the housing using one 3/8"-16 x 2" long wing nut bolt and a latch plate constructed of 16 gauge galvanized steel, (Reference Exploded Material View Drawing, Detail #3). The motor housing consisted of a motor plate, a bearing plate and two support plates, all constructed of 12 gauge galvanized steel. The assembly utilized a lifting handle which was constructed of 12 gauge galvanized steel and was secured to the top plate using four 3/16" diameter pop rivets. The motor cover was constructed of 20 gauge galvanized steel and was secured to the motor housing using four 1/4"-20 x 1" wing nut bolts. 6.0 Installation: The curb was installed onto a test buck constructed of 2x10 Spruce-Pine-Fir with nominal 1/2" plywood using twelve 3/8" x 2" long lag bolts, three on each side of the curb evenly spaced. The test buck consisted of 2x8 studs, located 24" on center. The plywood sheathing was secured to the wood studs using #8 x 3" screws and was sealed with silicone. The perimeter of the curb was sealed to the test buck with double-sided foam tape.
