1 The ABC Guide to Apprenticeships
2 Who we are ABC Awards is a leading national awarding organisation which has a long-established reputation for developing and awarding high quality vocational qualifications. We work with over 900 centres nationally and many tens of thousands of learners achieve an ABC Awards qualification each year. Established in 1998, ABC Awards combines more than 180 years of examination and assessment expertise but at the same time integrates a responsive, flexible and innovative approach to the needs of our customers. As a registered charity and now part of the EMFEC Group, ABC Awards is in its second decade as an FE sector-owned awarding organisation. Our Qualifications Our comprehensive portfolio of over 600 Ofqual regulated qualifications covers 12 industry sectors and is designed for all ages and abilities post-14. We have developed all of our qualifications with the support of relevant stakeholders to make sure that they meet the needs and standards of industries across the UK. This means that ABC Awards qualifications give learners the skills they need to find employment, progress within education and training or enhance their skills within their current job roles. An experienced and knowledgeable team Our friendly and responsive approach to customers means that all our centres have access to a dedicated Centre Support Officer and Business Development Manager who can answer any queries that you may have. Our moderators are all subject specialists and are chosen by us for their experience, knowledge and ability to support centres to deliver ABC qualifications successfully.
3 Apprenticeships As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job, usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. Anyone living in England, over 16 and not in full-time education can apply. Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices ability and the industry sector. * All employed apprentices will get a wage, at least the National Minimum Wage (NMW) however, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages in fact, research has found that apprentices earn an average of 170 net pay per week. * Key benefits: earn a salary get paid holidays receive training gain qualifications learn job-specific skills. There are three levels of Apprenticeship available for those aged 16 and over: Intermediate Level Apprenticeships Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as a Level 2, Functional Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification. Advanced Level Apprenticeships Apprentices work towards work-based learning such as a Level 3 Competence Qualification, Functional Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledgebased qualification. Higher Apprenticeships Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as a Level 4, Functional Skills and, in some cases, a knowledge-based qualification such as a Foundation Degree.
4 Apprenticeships are available in the following sectors: - Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Care* - Arts, Media and Publishing - Business, Administration and Law - Construction, Planning and the Built Environment - Education and Training - Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies* - Health, Public Services and Care* - Information and Communication Technology - Leisure, Travel and Tourism - Retail and Commercial Enterprise* *ABC Awards has qualifications in these sectors that contribute to Apprenticeships
